You're obviously not going to get a free Applecare.
But you can expect for similar things to happen in the future so you should be prepared.

Hope you have a backup of your data. If not, may be a good idea to get a 3rd party external drive and use that for backup, in case this happens again.

Hi peeps excellent news apple were very sympathetic and managed to restore my data. Turns out i had a faulty drive and a faulty hdd cable. So at the moment im a happy bunny. Thanks for all your posts and help

Are they giving you a new computer? I had a faulty microphone and HDD, they replaced my whole computer after one month of owning it.

No they just replaced the parts to be honest im just glad to have it back working again. On the plus side brought a external hdd and got them to show me how to use time machine
