Sounds like you're definitely leaning toward the MBA. I would just go with what your heart desires. Also, post in the MBA section maybe. I think the MBP people will lean you in their direction, while the MBA people will lead you towards theirs

Because many people here lead me towards MBP,as you said. So i have to learn towards MBA for a balance , the topic could continue, and i could get more information i'm looking for.

I had the original MBA 1.6 GHz and it was an ok experience. I never experienced studdering of flash videos, but I don't think Youtube was HD at that time.

Also one thing to consider is that the new Air has a somewhat underclocked Geforce 9400 (as compared to other Apple products with the chip) while mine only had horrid slow Intel HD graphics.

Lastly, if you're concerned about Flash performance (You may not be) Remember that Adobe is developing one that harnesses the GPU's power to help provide smoother playback.

The only thing my air did was turn on it's fans really loud when I watched youtube or flash vids. However, my unibody MBP 2.93 GHz will often do the same.

;)

One final note, I had the 80GB mechanical hard drive (not an ssd)

Thanks, BLaine, do you think your MBA is more overheating than MBP?

I've never owned a MBA, but my 13" MBP is great. And if I had to choose between the MBA and MBP... I'd choose the MBP in an instant! Why?

Because I prefer a more powerful computer than a feather weight one. The MBP is still a small machine and has more ports, more CPU, more HDD more everything! And it's cheaper!

I'd buy the base model MBP and save $300 than buy a lighter, but slower and with less ports and more expensive..

I have owned both models an I much prefer the MBA! The ports and optical drive become superfluous dead weight when you never use them, and carrying around an extra couple of pounds in your bag is definitely noticeable. Whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed.

Hello, this is my first thread here. I'm planning to purchase a notebook, but I don't know MBP or MBA which should i buy.
With my new macbook, i only use safari, iTunes, email, office, and other applications for work and study , i don't going to play games on it. And i don't use the optical drive (there is a optical drive on my current notebook , but i have used it less than three times in the past 3 years). But i heard that Macbook Air is a "crippled" notebook. so i don't know if MBA is really "crippled" compared to MBP.
In my condition, which do you think i should buy?
thanks in advance.
While i do like both and you can get both with ssd but really a MBA with SSD is ridiculously fast and not really the crippled machine everyone says it is. Again, this isn't your main machine so having a 3lb machine becomes very noticeably easier to lug around anywhere. You need to go to You tube and look at some videos.
