Hey all,

Am being slowly driven crazy by a 3 year old MacBook with logic board problems (battery not charging although when last seen it was fine with lots of life left) and keyboard issues (dead 3, e, d, and c keys. I am typing by stopping to click on those keys in Keyboard Viewer each time one of those comes up. Arrgh.)

Why not fix/replace now? I have decided to get a new MacBook Pro and have been waiting until the new ones come out. I'm getting impatient, and would like to have some idea of how long that will be. Any real ideas on that?

And yes I know it's April Fools but this is not a joke and though I do try to maintain a healthy sense of humor this is NOT fun.

Thanks,

Bett

buy an HP Envy or Z series viao. chances are the 'new' MBPs will cost a TON more and have fewer features (but a teeny bit easier on the eye).

apple dont seem concerned about notebook computers.

you know nothing.. and you sound just as dumb as the rest of us trying to put together this puzzle

It's educated guesswork. I never claimed to be an expert nor have inside information. I was simply posting a sensible answer rather than those useless ones of the April Fools loonies.

Please ignore the anti-Apple nutters.

Apple rarely increases prices (in fact dropped them recently), but instead replaces current models with more powerful versions at around the same price.

Arrgh! Rumors are flying! But I just saw an ad for new Intel chips, which gives me some hope . . .

The latest rumour is that they're being released "sometime this month" (April), after being delayed from March because of Intel supply problems. It's possible, but Apple still may not want to disrupt iPad month's 3G release, and so might delay laptops until May. :)

^^^^^^
But this is a rumor site, after all. I think it is pretty obvious that under normal circumstances the MBP's would have been upgraded by now. The Intel chip rationale makes sense.

I guess it was inevitable that some grouch would appoint himself an officer in the No Rumors Police, despite this being the MacRumors site. :)

You don't buy computer hardware for what you wish to use it for now. You buy it for what you'll want to do with it for the next two years (or however long the hardware needs to last you).

It's very, very silly to buy a c2d cpu with ddr2 ram in a new machine now.

This is obviously what they want everyone to do. These machines are sooooooo over priced..

haha.....the newest MBP 15" (I just ordered last week) costs about that much as my first G3/500 iBook Dual USB I brought back in late 2001. It was the cheapest way to get a mobile mac back then, when a titanium book costs almost twice as much as the current MBP line....so I'm pretty happy with the pricing structure today;)

I think disruption of releases at this point is moot. I could understand putting things off past April 3rd (initial iPad release) but I hardly think the 3G release is going to make as many waves as the initial one did. Same with the upcoming iPhone OS event and inevitable hardware refresh in early summer - the MBP and iPhone are completely different products.

I think it's a matter of something completely unrelated to upcoming products at this point. Just opining, of course. ;)

It's not that they cost too much, it's that you're paying $1200 for a $700 laptop.

this is unreal - Sony Vaio Z 13" Laptop pisses over Apple's Maxed out Configuration 17" MBP - it's a 13" laptop and it wipes the floor with the damn i7 iMac for crying out loud... i want to get a 17" MBP with 24" ACD, but seriously update the damn things with the minimum:

-all MBP's 1920-1080 display
-17" minimum base configuration i7
-17" minimum base configuration 6GB RAM

seriously Apple, the only thing stopping me is it runs Windows 7... and that's because i haven't tested it, and people say it is really good, such an improvement over Vista. These laptops need updating or Steve needs to Divide Apple up into ****** toys and what Apple used to be - a serious, professional computer manufacturer that people would stab the nearest child to get one of their laptops/computers ffs

Indeed, Apple really needs to stop neglecting their computers because they are focusing on iPhone/iPad/etc.

From a business standpoint that's horrible. I'd like them to work more on their full fledged computers too, but fact is, most of their income and consumer interest is from the iPod/Phone/Pad, and working on those fronts yields the most profit for them.

Wouldn't that be the definition of they cost too much?

Reminds me of a John Stewart quote:
"I'm not saying your mother is a whore, I'm just saying that she has sex for money."

Buzz Bumble, thanks, and let's hope so! Sooner rather than later, to reiterate the mass sentiment.

If you can't back it up, don't say it.

Relznuk, well Buzz did back it up - or should I say, obviated any need for doing so, by identifying it as a rumor right up front. ;)

I would think that Apple has the resources and is big enough to develop both lines without the need to sacrifice one for the other. It is not just the computers but even OS X itself is long overdue for a substantial and groundbreaking update.
