Basically it's because Apple doesn't provide a descent GPU driver for Windows. The GPU isn't locked down when system is idle. Update to the newest driver from Nvidia would solve this problem.

I'll buy a mbp in this coming tax free weekend, and I'll try this as well.

How is this possible? Intel programs the CPU to shut down at 105C.

I don't know what some people are doing to these systems. Doing processor intensive tasks with your laptop sitting on your bed? Maybe next to a camp fire or in direct sunlight? I have worked my Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, and Macbook Air to the absolute limits and like I said I never, not once saw above 180 F. I know for a fact Intel Processors shut off at a specific temp (discovered that after forgetting to plug in the heatsink fan on a custom build). So how your system can reach such insane temperatures without burning you is beyond me. When my laptop got to 180 F it was uncomfortable to touch, if you hit 230 F (50 F difference), I don't see how that wouldn't burn you.

^ If it’s hot outside and you’re doing something intensive (playing a game for example), you definitely can hit 90*C+ easily.

I suppose. Maybe I just got a quirky system that actually stays cool. I play the occasional Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 5, etc and my temps for my Macbook Pro still never passed 180*F, even on a summer day. Lucky me!

My u-MBP was averaging about 52 degrees Celsius while I was using it at work for 8 strait hours a day. Then I went to BestBuy and picked up the Targus Chill Mat for $20. My computer now averages 38 degrees Celsius. Not a bad $20 investment if you ask me.

I highly recommend this to anyone using their Macbook/Macbook Pro on a desk all day.
