I have speck cases on my iPhone and iPod. I don't bother with my MBP because I don't expect to drop it or similar, I do put it away in a bag when not used.

If it gets scratched, then so be it. Realistically I'll be on to another computer in a couple of years time anyway. Might as well enjoy this one whilst I have it.

Don't worry so much! A case will prevent scratches, but scratches won't "harm" your computer or affect its resale value, as long as it has been through general use. Have fun with your laptop! Worrying extensively about the aesthetics of a machine causes white hairs, wrinkles, and decreases life expectancy by up to 63 years. It has been proven! The last person who worried about the scratches on his MBP went bald in the span of 3 days. Then he died. It's not worth it.

Zipper cases scratches your macbook so I suggest a sleeve instead. The incase zipper case DENTED the side of the macbookpro at the power battery indicator. Also scratched the sides of the aluminum body on the screen portion.

thats why i didnt buy it

My subjective view is a bit different. Although I don't cover it up with all those silicon skins or crappy hard cases I do treat my gear gently and the result all of my Macs since my Powerbook 180 still looks pristine (with the usual wear such as smooth keyboard and trackpads). I still have them all, never sold any mac that I bought. I use them until I decide to upgrade every 3 to 4 years then they go to storage or a friend or family member who would appreciate it and care for it.

You don't really need a lot of protective gear to keep your stuff looking good. I just buy a good protective bag, sleeve, and keyboard cloth. I clean it regularly and make sure that I'm always mindful when handling my gear. A lot of bumps and scuffs can be attributed to overall absentminded carelessness.

I use the spec soft touch hard cases. They look great, don't have the feel of the hard cases and don't really add much weight or thickness to it.

And for everyone that likes "character" on their MBP, there are just that many people who will buy the used MBP with less "character" because they don't want someone else's scratched up MBP.

All my devices have cases and when I resell to pick up a newer version, I can ask for a good price since they go out in like new condition because I take care of them. They certainly get used, but they don't get abused.

i use the speck see thru clear so it kinda sporting the macbook naked. u can see every nook and cranny of it...heh heh alrightttttttt

All computers in my family get handed down, so I don't worry about a few scratches possibly harming the resale value. I just do my best to take care of them and not bang them around too much. My current MBP has a Moshi palm guard and that's it for protection.

If putting it in a case will make you feel better, go for it. But overall try not to stress about it too much. Even with a case on it there's a chance that it will somehow get dented a little or what not. It's not the end of the world.

better to protect the outside body then the palmrest???

+1 on the Spec Black Case. It feels good, looks good and you know your lappy is protected. Must have if you concerned about scratches and such.

I just use it carefully, I never have spilled anything on my computer before. And there are some covers, specially for the palm rest area but I do not like to use them.

Matter of preference.

Yup. Don't care. They're character. If scratches bother you then take whatever precautionary steps you're willing to deal with.

Sorry, but dings and scratches don't give it character, they make it look like a beat up piece of crap.

I use my 17" all the time and it doesn't have any dings or scratches. To me , it's a tool but also an elegant work of art and I treat it accordingly.

I expect my MBP to get a few marks, minor scratches, and shiny keys. That's what makes it uniquely mine.

My only objection is when Apple shipped my new computer with six or eight deep scratches on the lid & palm rest, all over 3" in length. How they could miss those while packing it is rather puzzling.

Even worse, the replacement they sent had similar scratches. They were also long deep scratches that took some force to inflict. Apples quality control is pretty poor considering they present themselves as a premier company with high quality designs.

But no worries, after nearly three months and three CTO / BTO MBP's they finally managed to ship one that looked like new. What an amazing feat.

The fact that every one of the twelve new PowerBooks / MacBook Pros I bought in the years leading up to this experience were pristine right out of the box, it proves Apples capable of delivering the quality they boast about.

Perhaps high quality, properly inspected, Aluminum MBP's are no longer an Apple priority.

After all it's the iToyz Era Now.
