This is driving me nuts, but every time I fire up Adobe Illustrator, there are mysterious green/blue pixels popping up like this (in the box outline along side Stroke), anyone experiencing the same issue? Thanks to Apple Care+, I've replaced my screen, but the issue remains when certain programs are launched.

Are you running at native resolution? I’ve seen reports that when the discrete GPU is used and you are scaling the display, you get some little artifacts. If so, it’s likely a software problem that will get resolved.

Hi cmaier,

I am using the More Space option...

The issue gets even more significant when using the native resolution:

Nope, my 15-inch 2019 model with Catalina just works fine.
That sucks :(

Seems like the 16" display is not up to apple's usual snuff, they typically have one of the best displays on the market.

I've replaced the display already, now I'm tending to believe that I may need to replace the logic board....

It’s definitely an issue with the gpu or software, otherwise it wouldn’t vary based on scaling, etc.

If mainboard swap doesn’t fix it, then a software issue.

Given this is the fourth thread on the issue, I am definitely inclined to believe it's simply a software bug and not hardware-related. I always run mine at native resolution (the one to the left of Default in System Preferences > Displays), so I don't experience the issue. UI elements are bigger than I'd like, but I'm stuck with that as otherwise everything looks fuzzy to me.

The bezels are thinner, so at least you could call that an improvement over the previous models. But the display is still the most disappointing aspect of the 16" MBPs.

I was an early adopter of the 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, that display was incredible. Now the PPI has barely changed (220 PPI to 226 PPI) and it's 7 years later. Not the worst on the market, but unlike the 2012, it's far from the best.

Hi redheeler,

Would you please share those threads with me?

Thanks.

See post #9 in this thread for the other two.

Annoying thing is that this is a regression in 10.15.2; the earlier Catalinas did not have this problem.

If you move the window containing the artifact, does it move along with the window, or does it stay in the same place on the screen?

Just tested, I am getting this too on my 16. So, it's probably not a defective Macbook which you have.

I noticed that it disappears as soon as I go into screenshot mode, so I can't screenshot it but only take a photo and it also depends on the angle from which I look at it. It might be some kind of moiré effect?

I was thinking maybe artifacts from sub-pixel rendering?

Does it show up if you zoom in with the accessibility tool?

This really sucks, I'm kinda forced now to use my X1C (7th-gen 2019) instead and realize how beautiful it is:

- 10th-gen 6-core Intel i7 CPU w/ WiFi 6 support packed;
- 4K 500-nit screen panel w/o any glitches;
- 4G LTE always-on Internet connection;
- Way better keyboard (than scissors mechanism);
- Super lightweight;
- Compact form factor.

Oh man the parallel universe has been stellar....

Yeah, Lenovo's entire Thinkpad X1 line-up is really great. Does the 2019 10th-gen Intel CPU powered X1C come with a discrete GPU, or have they kept it with the iGPU? I personally have a 16" MBP and a Thinkpad X1 Extreme(Gen 2) with an Nvidia Geforce 1650 4 GB dGPU and it's pretty hecking great. Kinda disappointed by the 16" MBP. I desperately want to keep the MBP, but given that I've paid like 2.8k for mine with AppleCare+ included? It's sorta like madness that I not return the MBP and stick with the user serviceable/water resistant X1 Extreme(Gen 2).

This isn't a hardware issue. I had the problem myself. Just turn off the TrueTone mode an it will disappear. So annoying that we have to deal with this kind of problems...

The Carbon lineup has iGPUs.

I’ve been on the verge of returning/selling the 16’’ MBP for multiple times.

Yes, and it ought to be momentary, bound with 10.15.3 public release will be ridiculous.

Did you also notice that it disappears as soon as you encircle it with the screenshot selection mode? That means that the display can display it without problems and should be fixable with software.
