I really really wish Apple would back off the annual release cycle on major software versions.

Both iOS and macOS would really benefit from a slower and more solid release cycle.

  • ~10.15.1 | Apple: We are aware of the "popping" sound issue;
  • 10.15.2 | Apple: you should not hear the 'popping" sound now;
  • 10.15.2 | Apple: one more thing, we introduced a new bug in this build, it's called dGPU Artifacts;
  • 10.15.2 | Me: you know what Apple, I'd like to exchange my artifacts for the "popping" sound....
Sigh....

Clearly a software/firmware/driver issue, and not a hardware issue.

People are so quick to jump the gun and blame the hardware.

Hi cmaier,

I am using the More Space option...

The issue gets even more significant when using the native resolution:

Just to note that Default for display is no longer native on mac laptops, which does somewhat annoy me. ( as much as not truly upping PPI to the level they want to be using now and just scaling it instead.. )

Just fyi, Apple hasn't said or implied the popping sound has been resolved, or even addressed yet, and it continues. And as far as I know, the artifacts you're concerned with aren't new with 10.15.2.

The Carbon lineup has iGPUs.

I’ve been on the verge of returning/selling the 16’’ MBP for multiple times.

ya, my GF has an X1C that I loaded up with Fedora, or was it Manjaro? I forget. But the X1C series is legit. I'd be using one if not for my need for a discrete GPU. 😅

Oh sounds tech-savvy man, i just use the pre-loaded Windows 10 Pro for my daily tasks, and it works fine. :)

10.15.2 fixed the "popping" issue at least for me. :)

Yes, just when one OS gets really good and everything works, they abandon it for the next one.

I would have stayed on Mojave for a long time if the 16" hadn't forced me to to go to Catalina.

This really sucks, I'm kinda forced now to use my X1C (7th-gen 2019) instead and realize how beautiful it is:

- 10th-gen 6-core Intel i7 CPU w/ WiFi 6 support packed;
- 4K 500-nit screen panel w/o any glitches;
- 4G LTE always-on Internet connection;
- Way better keyboard (than scissors mechanism);
- Super lightweight;
- Compact form factor.

Oh man the parallel universe has been stellar....

But Windows...

FYI - on 16 inch MaBook Pro native resolution is not the "Default for display" option but the scaled 1536 x 960 option (the 1st one left of Default option). The screen is 3072 x 1920.
