It could be better...

I've had several Dells (Inspiron 8600, Precision M60, Precision M4300 and Precision M4400) and a Thinkpad W520, since a year ago I have a rMBP 2.7/512/16 and, of course, is the best of all, as it is the latest, but for sure, the best was the Precision M4400, if I could have that screen (ok, it was not retina, it was 1920x1200 RGBLED) and that connectivity with an Ivy Bridge and 16Gb ... I wouldn't have updated from it ever :-D

Anyway the rMBP is quite a great machine, small, cool, nice and a real powerful computer. The retina is great but it could be greater if Apple wasn't such stubborn about things, I need a 1440x900 "perfect pixel" mode for non retina-aware applications, that is, when I have a non retina app I want it to behave exactly as if the screen were 1440x900 without any antialias or anything, just 1 pixel gets rendered as 2x2 pixel, that's all.

Also I would have add eSATA port instead of the SD card, as Thunderbolt and USB3 add too much overhead and never give you the real SATA performance for external SSD, and SD/CF USB3 card readers are as fast as you wish.

With such features I would give the rMBP a 10. Anyway since a long time ago, I know that until someone hires me as a designer we won't have a perfect laptop (mainly because each one has their own needs :)

Regards

Really, post us in two years and lets see who got the most bang for bucks. In two years your registry is 5g on its own mostly due to windows updates. Your acer will 2 minutes just to boot.
I'm up to 4 years with my Windows workstation without reformatting and daily usage. This is not 2001 with Windows XP anymore. Macs can also right click, by the way.
(Although I do agree that the rMBP is one of the better laptops at the moment)

I wouldn't say the MPBr is the best out there... there are always better laptops.
And just because a laptop runs windows, doesn't mean it can't top the MPBr.
Before I got my MPBr I only had Windows Laptops and they worked perfect. And if you don't bang the system with bloatware it will still boot within a few seconds.
All of them work fine, they don't fall apart (Acer doesn't produce good laptops anyways) and they are still pretty fast even without a SSD.
The MBPr is a great machine... The Display is great. But I think the price is still high and there could be more performance.
I think Apple is going the wrong way at the moment. Thinner and Thinner. Don't get me wrong. Thin is great but instead they could have let the MBPr be as big as the normal MBP and banged it with even better hardware.

It's a good laptop, but definitely not the best, and for people with earlier models, there isn't much of a reason to upgrade. Best Mac laptop, yes, but thats different.

You got my vote now for the 13"r-MB, it is the best personal / intimate experience every, it is my comfort machine when I have my comfort foods and chick-flix !!! The cute little screen and rich content, so close I feel I am hugging it with my retinas! But the 15"r-MB, that is a cop-out, it makes no sense to have such a tiny display for trying to be so powerful, why didn't they just go right ahead with a 17"r-MBP, waste less time and resources, and have more time to develop. The 13"r-MB is just superb, perfect!

I have yet to find a windows laptop with everything right. I also found they had blue tint due to poor calibration ( Dell and Asus ) The macbook gives me everything I need, good quality screen with good calibration, reasonable speakers, adequate gaming, superb battery life and OSX is far, far superior to Windows in every single way.

Completely agreed. I fell in love with the 13-inch form factor the first time I saw it. I tested out both the 13 and 15 at the Apple store, and found the 15 to be way too big. The 13 was just right.

I think the rMBP is certainly the best laptop period if you want something powerful and lightweight. There aren't really better built laptops on the market than what Apple is offering.

It's a great all-around package.
