hey if you put up some message like "omg they are in stores". why don't you put what location? otherwise it's a useless post.
If someone can post what config the "high res" comes in, that would be great. I remember when the 17's first came out they had a high end package that was essentially the fastest proc with 7200 rpm and the dense screen.
The closest Apple store to me (Burlington, MA) did not have any earlier today -- I'm hoping that changes, but I can't call at the moment.
The 1pm must be the magic time. APW100 had a post at 1:01 pm saying none in stores. Then at 1:10 pm, BAM! he says that they are magically in stores. Is it usual for the stores to decide to sell a new product all beginning at the same time?
My local store has them. I live near the Apple Store on Bethesda Row in Bethesda, MD for anyone in the Washington D.C. area who was thinking about getting one.
I went to the Apple Store on Regent Street (London) at 5:30pm today in the hope of picking up a mid-range 15", but was told they didn't have any new macbook pros in stock at all.
I asked when they might get some in and the lady said she had "no idea" as they were new and only released today.
Will try again this weekend - anyone else been there and had more success? I got the feeling I chose the wrong person to ask...

The one I called said they did, he wasn't 100% for sure but he thinks they got them. I might stop by after work today and pick on up, I will know more then.
This all just makes me laugh... The apple and bestbuy guy i talked to was trying to sell me a macbook pro JUST this weekend (saturday). I was asking about being upgrades and all. and they said they dont think that theyd be even out by the time of september or october.
1. They are sales people. They are there to sell their current products.
2. They don't get told of new product releases.
3. They don't care if new hardware is round the corner.. they are sales people. Doesn't matter if they work for Apple.
Charlotte, NC store HAS them in stock, but does NOT have the High Res screen. Although, the person I spoke with didn't seem to really even know about a high res option.
