I bet:

Announcement: March 2nd
Availability: June

I was going to ask why you would even make such a ludicrous statement, and then I realized you were just being sarcastic. Silly me. You were being sarcastic right? God I hope so....

I just hope the 2G iPad does NOT use the same front and rear camera system as that on the 4G iPod touch. A low-res camera front facing for Facetime is not an issue, but a under 1-megapixel rear camera (like you get with the 4G iPod touch) just won't cut it. I'm hoping that Apple will actually offer the 5 megapixel camera sensor from the iPhone 4 for the rear-facing camera on the 2G iPad, especially since with the much larger case there is space for 5 megapixel sensor and all its related electronics.

iPad2, March 2?

I held out until now. So, I just gotta get a 2 no matter how soon the 2.5 , 3 or 6 comes out. I really hope Steve can get well, too. Best wishes.

maybe it will have only 512mb,
but it will have dual-core A9, back camera,

and the possibility of 1280 x 960 resolution is 0%

 Multiple sources have mentioned the higher res rumour. It's also well within the abilities of iOS, with further diversification seemingly on the horizon. Then again, i'm not counting on it, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

You on the other hand might be in for some serious disappointment served with humble pie.

This is guaranteed to be the least exciting event ever :D

I mean we all know exactly what's going to be in it with 99% probability, including faster processors, front camera, back camera etc.

The only things that would make this event exciting would be if it has a retina display (i.e. they actually do it) or some sort of holographic star trek technology :D Otherwise an uneventful, unexciting refresh.

Apple cant keep up

Last year they announced the iPad a lot earlier. I wonder what was taking them so long lol. Apple better come up with something that we will consider "magic" or something that will "change everything" again when compared to these other tablets on the market.

Here are 3 things that the iPad will need to kill its Android's Honeycomb platform: http://goo.gl/9zD3H

does anyone else think that we are all wrong about thursday being the release date for the macbook pros, and it would seem more likely that they will be unveiled on march 2nd along with the ipad 2 because why would they have two releases one week after another?

Because Intel wants to show it off and Intel is having an event on Light Peak on thursday in San Francisco. I bet Apple will be there. New MacBook Pro, I think. There are a lot to talk about. Next week is iPad 2 time.

That's assuming we know it all. Plus, it serves as marketing, too. Apple may show off iOS 4.3. or 4.5. Facetime app may be different from current ios devices. Who knows what else. One more thing... airplay between devices !~

Last year there had to be a longer interval from presentation to release because it was the first iPad ever and Apple had to give the developers more time to update their apps for the iPad. This isn't a problem anymore this year, so Apple is able to reduce the interval. So, the iPad 2 isn't late by any standard, it's absolutely on schedule.

Can someone provide some indication that this iPad 2 is to be announced and then released at a later date?
Everyone on here is saying it'll be released with a 2-3week delay from announcement, but i really can't see that happening...

It'll be announced, and steve will say, "and you can order these today"
Or am i missing something?

I will be buying as soon as it's available Money ready, vacation days have plenty so I can take a four day weekend to play

Oh, I specifically meant hardware :) There could be tons of exciting stuff software-wise :)

That said, the hardware part is almost too predictable in that there doesn't seem to be anything that's a "maybe". No one even questions whether it maybe will have a faster processor/camera etc...

At the same time, pretty much everyone agrees something like a retina display is almost guaranteed to not happen.

So the only thing apple can do to make this exciting hardware-wise is if it defies the experts by succeeding at getting a retina display, or inventing something completely and entirely new that none of us even thought about. Maybe some magical quasi-holodeck display technology, or magical folding screen like in the sci-fi movies? :).

I don't know that there is any indication, but I assume people are guessing this because it would fall closer to the release of when the original iPad was released last year (It wasn't available until early April). Thats the only reasoning I can think of. I certainly hope you are right, I'm an impatient geek who needs his toy! :D

I know it's not "for sure" but I had a question. Do preorders usually begin the day of the announcement?

Well duh there not going to double retina that would be ludicrous.

Hmm, Hitachi are developing what could be double the retina display on the iPhone for a similar size screen (4"). I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this on the iPhone 6.

Does anybody think that the wifi and 3g versions will be the same?

I think that it would be awesome if they could retain the 16 wifi only, perhaps even without camera and then drop the other two, which apparently don't sell well anyway.

AND have a single 3g line up with both GSM and CDMA inside.

But I suspect that that dual mode isn't likely until the ipad 3 next year.

So keep the low end 16 GB (good for the kiddies, schools and only in house business uses like restaurants etc). And then a couple of GSM 3g and a couple of CDMA 3g.

Plus more ram, faster processor, front facing camera and a screen with at least a little anti-glare and smudge resistance plus better brightness and a better light sensor. And better speakers.

All that for the same (or lower) prices and I'm in.
