after using this tonight for a lil bit I have to say this might be hands down the best IM app out now I think this is going to replace Beejive.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

This is a great application. Just deleted IM+ lite.

what a fantastic app. this is basically what ive wished for since the iphone came out. no fluff, no excess, but just straight IMs, multiple accounts, push notifications, and a very nice and clean look. perfect.

That pretty much sums up my opinion of the App too - was using it all day today, works very well.

Well it crashed on me when registering a Meebo account and then hung forever when trying to add an AIM account, so I'm going with there still being a LOT of bugs still to iron out.

If this works faster than Fring, I'll finally be able to have everything in one place (the AIM app is terrible and google still things apps are a failure and web-based programs are the wave of the future? seriously? let's see the next pixar movie that's been made in safari).

Now all it needs is video chat and skype integration and it'll most likely be the best!

It doesn't have all the features of Beejive (sending photos, audio, etc), but the extremely snappy performance for the one key feature of an IM app—sending messages—have made it my go-to program.

Anyone know how long meebo keeps you logged in for? Other IM apps specify a time constraint or if there isn't one, it will say there isn't one, but meebo doesn't seem to state either way. Loving it so far though! Hopefully the log-in time is at least a few days...

I love Nimbuzz's feature set, but its (and several other IM apps') one hour push limit makes it (them) basically useless. I'd rather forgo a few perks and actually be available, than have the window dressing and be constantly shoved offline. One hour is still better than the even more pointless 15 minute window of the older version(s), but it's still an unacceptable and illogical restriction when other apps, including non-IM ones (eg: eBay), will happily send indefinite pushes. Being able to send videos, audio or pictures is pointless if you've been dropped out and have to keep reconnecting. If Meebo will keep me available, I'm more than willing to switch to it and delete all the other apps that have so far disappointed me.

How do you delete a buddy?

Tap them in your friends list, then tap the ">" in the top right. Tap "Remove Buddy".

This would be my first venture into IMing on the iPhone, and hopefully it will be a way to use SMS less. A few newbie questions:

1. What are my options to receive an SMS from a non-Meebo user? I thought that by turning on SMS in my gmail account, it would relay it via the one I have linked to Meebo. It only came up as a regular email.

2. In order to send an SMS to a regular number, would I still need to use the AOL-IM feature, as illustrated here?

thanks!

Does anyone know how long the push notification works after you shut down the app?
Beejive provides up to 7 days push notification.

never really thought i would use an app for this sort of thing, but this one caught my eye. so far i have been really pleased. great push time to my phone, simple to use interface. can't really go wrong, its free!

I have tried it already and it's a great piece of software.

But, I have a problem with this multi IM programs. You have to give them your passwords. In Case of Google Talk, this password is the password to your email.

I'm not sure how this services work, do they store your passwords in their database? or talking of google use a google service to manage the authentication.

I just received a message to my Yahoo account after not touching my phone or opening the Meebo app for the last 8 hours.

Yep....

This is great, but I do have one complaint that Meebo doesn't seem to want to address (or even mention in their FAQ). Why won't they support encrypted chat sessions??

This looks great! Although, I'm probably gonna use BeeJive more than this. Landscape keyboard? WHERE ARE YOU!

It was on by default for me, but there is an option to turn landscape on and off from the Settings app. Go down to Meebo for all Meebo preferences.

Really liking this app, the only downside I see is that I can't send pictures to friends. I don't do it often, so I guess I'll keep IM+ too.

can this do group chat? I'm still looking for an app that does group chat well. I tried using text+ but that didn't work very well. I'm using whatsapp right now but they only have group broadcast and not group chat.

Judging by the positive responses in this thread, the problems that I'm having with it are definitely not the norm.

1. Selected to create an account and the app crashed.
2. Tried again and this time the account creation page opened. I picked a name, and while typing my password it blanked out the field that I was typing into and made me start over.
3. Pushed the button to save the account and it crashed.
4. I rebooted the iPod at this point.
5. Tried again to create an account and again had the blanking out issue from step 2.
6. Pushed save and this time it actually came up with "saving" or something similar for a couple of seconds, then crashed.
7. Tried to create the account for the third time and it said that the name already exists. So I went back to the main screen and tried to log in. Crashed.

Obviously you're all doing substantially better than I am, but I'm really posting this to see whether anyone else has had it crash. However, the evidence is pointing to my iPod (which is not jailbroken) needing a restore.

Edit: I see that version 1.1 is out now. I upgraded and haven't had any crashes yet :)
