yes, wouldn't it be possible to make the member list available for people over 200 post and over 6 montsh or something like that? kind of like the new marketplace is... i mis sthe members list already.. and i havent noticed any speed increase to be honest...but then again i never experienced a slow site either, MR has always run smoothly for me..

I miss the member list.

However, if it's removal makes MR faster, then I'm all for that.

Maybe an alternative member list that is updated on a daily basis and not dynamic would be an option.

Could the link to the member list be added to the User CP page? That way, logged-in members could view it, but it would be hidden from the bots.

I don't get what you mean by internet snoops. This is a public forum and what you post is visible to all. How does the member's list relate to that?

OMG NO WAI, Public forum? :p I'm aware, dude. In saying "internet snoops" I was encompassing bots, spammers and people just snooping around anonymously. I don't think guests/unregistered/bots/etc need to know who the members are and have a supplied list. If it's slowing the forums down I don't think it's such a bad thing for access to the members list and the member profiles to be available to members only. I've noticed that most forums are set up that way. I think that's a good thing for a multitude of reasons, one of which is for a small bit of added security for members - not making it so easy for someone searching/snooping to, well, snoop around. I think this is easy enough to understand. I don't think MR owes it to bots, spammers and unregistered viewers to have a look around at the members.

Just my take on it though.

I have no problem with the list being removed, especially if it speeds things up. I just don't get the snooping thing. Even without a list, anyone can just click on a person's user name and see what they've posted. Besides, anyone can register in minutes with a throw away email address. [shrug]

I think you may be missing the primary point of my post(s) or taking my word "snooping" literally. If unregistered viewers, including bots, are causing slowdowns by viewing the memberlist, rather than take it away entirely I was wondering if restricting its access to registered users would help. It has the ADDED BENEFIT of keeping out people who are just looking to find members for one reason or another, including PM spamming. It is not that important but it's a small added security measure which might be nice. I don't think unregistered people have many appropriate needs for being able to view profiles or memberlists, especially if it slows things down.
Get me?
