Membership Ranks: Why is there a 65832?

Yeah, since posting my post yesterday, I've passed through and am a 68000 now, too.
But what will we do in half a year?
I think it's fine as it is, although arn had better make start making those high rankd 10k posts apart instead of 5000.
Why, I remember when mad jew was still 604, and I remember when he hit G3. at 30,000 posts, he might hit G5, but it's gonna get real hard to give him a rank at 45-50k.
I am predicting (after reading this thread) that after the G5 rank there might be a G6 or/and G7 rank.
The system ain't broke, so don't fix it.
Why should we have everything 'neat and tidy'? I like the irregularity of the current rankings
I don't think 'changing the rankings to make people post more' is the right way to go - aren't we aiming for quality not quantity of postings?
The only thing I would change would be to make the current ranking names slightly more newbie-friendly i.e.
instead of having a 'macrumours 68020'
change it to 'macrumours Mac II 68020' and 'macrumours Quadra 68040' etc

Agreed, would like the more user friendly change too. Will sound more interesting than some random 68k processor number. PowerPC and beyond ranks might not be needed to be changed much.
Considering not only has Apple never used this, plus not using the same architecture anymore, I highly doubt it.
And I think that using the computers names that used those chips would just make it more confusing.

Fixed that for you.
We don't know if arn programmed any other levels, but jelloshotsrule is currently over 7000 and is still a 601.
Interesting thread, and, in common with a number of others who have posted, I had never understood the the reason behind the short numerical span of some of the membership numbering designations. Thanks for enlightening us.
However, my understanding is that while there is a level between 100 and 250 posts, namely 6502, and there is also an additional level between 250 and 500 posts which is denoted by the addition of the letter "a", which indicates that the user is permitted to upload an avatar.

A few days ago, I reached (and flew through) the rare 68010 rank......I debated savouring it for a day or so, but there were posts I wished to make, and so, it came and flashed by rather swiftly.

The instant I posted the screenshot, I knew I'd get ripped; that's why I said I had "no life". Doesn't matter, really, in the overall scheme of things. And what fun would it be if I simply stopped posting forever to MR, just to prove conclusively to the rest of the world that the title/rank exists? Very little, that's what.
