I love my 38mm I believe my wrist is around 165mm and I feel the 38 looks more proportionate for some reason. It fits perfectly.

Me too. A 38 mm on a 180 mm wrist. I think it is just a matter of taste, but I prefer a smaller watch and the 38 mm looks just fine to my eye.

Another 38mm Owner Here

I too went with the 38mm, and am glad of my choice. My other watches are a 42mm divers watch and a chronograph, both with metal bracelets. I was over the size of them and welcomed the 38mm.

I think all the talk of mens versus ladies sized watches is pure nonsense. A watch really is a personal device, more so than a phone, so the size and band ultimately are all up to the user. There are no rules.

Curious to know how men (or people with big wrists) like the 38, if they opted for that over the 42.

I like my watches to be small and light (if I'm wearing one at all) and wanted to see how the 38 looked on a bigger wrist and how it feels anecdotally.
I bought the 38mm because I have 170mm wrists and because I didn't want to feel like I was trying to grab people's attention with a giant gadget on my wrist that screamed, "look at me, I've got the Apple Watch!". and I do like the size.

That said, I am returning the 38mm for the 42mm because of battery life. While 42mm owners were bragging about ending their days with 30-50% power remaining, my 38mm was running dead in 14 hours. It appears to have improved with the 1.01 update - I'm sitting at 20% now when I'd typically be at 10% with today's usage - but knowing that I'll have late nights sometime and that the battery will only lose capacity as time goes on I'm sticking with my return.

It'll be interesting to switch from the 38mm to the 42mm after weeks of usage. I did try the 42mm on at the store and it felt/looked fine.

The 42 would have been too much for my small wrists.

Agreed!

Between men and women there are a lot of different size wrists out there. I think Apple was very smart to offer two sizes, and I think the two sizes they decided on is spot on!

I hope that works out for you as far as the battery. I wonder if there was a problem with your battery? I have the 38mm and here are my numbers as we speak, I've had the watch on since 9am.

Edit: I have not done the 1.0.1 update.

Thanks. Apple ran diagnostics on the battery multiple times and reported it good. At 18% remaining, here's where I'm at:

Here's the watchface. Obviously my usage is higher, including using the workout app, but nothing crazy beyond what Apple expects from a day with the Watch. 18% remaining after 14 hours off the charger means I won't make it to 18 hours.

My husband's wrist is 175 and he chose the 38. It was closest in size to the Citizen EcoDrive he's worn for the past 10 years.

My son's wrist is 157 and he's also wearing a 38.

We all wanted these to look unobtrusive. Like watches.

A disadvantage with the 42 is that it looks even more obvious that you have a big, blank screen strapped to your wrist unless you just have big wrists that make it look proportionate.

It looks too small, lole a bracelet. More a function of the strap though than the watch

Yea, you'd be just a little short of 18 hours, that is heavy usage tho isn't it? I'll be real interested in how you make out with the 42. I really hope it works out for you.

Yeah, I've had days where I had over 50% left after 18 hours on my 38mm. On an average day, I usually have 40%-45% left. I think it has a lot more to do with usage than the minor difference in battery capacity.

Thought 38 was only a stopgap, but maybe not....

I ordered a 38 SS BSB last week when I realized I could get one within a few days (which I did). Had a 42 on order thinking that was best for my wrists just shy of 190 mm, but was growing impatient. I thought I’d try out the smaller one and maybe then pass it on to wife or daughter, or return it, and still go with the 42.

But part of me is coming around to the smaller size. I may well keep it. Wife and daughter think it looks fine on me, and I can’t actually think of why I need it to be bigger — it really does not look diminutive. As others have said, maybe the more understated look works for some people. Also, maybe the smaller size is easier to wear with a long-sleeved business shirt, and maybe it is less likely to be damaged by accidental scrapes.

Looks good on you! It looks like a watch, and that's what I like about the 38!

I wore a 38 for a week on a wrist that is 200 mm or a touch more. It was tight. Now I have a 42 that is connected on the 3rd hole of the large band and is perfectly comfortable.

With the SB versions, the 38 comes with both band sizes in the box. So SB size is not actually a factor in choosing watch size.

I went in with an open mind since I always love saving $50 if it's on something I prefer. But when I looked at the 38, it looked small on my wrist. As best I can measure it, my wrist is 190 mm. Maybe it's just larger than many of yours, which I would be amazed by since I always just wore large gloves. It's not like my size 13 feet. But maybe they just are big and so 42 works that much better for me, especially since there is more display to work with.

The old iPhones seem so tiny now after using my iPhone 6 for six months, but they seemed plenty big when I owned them. So I figured I would go big. The face didn't seem to look gigantic on my wrist, but I know it would on my mom's wrist. She has a standard watch with such a tiny face. But I guess it's just what you plan on doing with it. At work we have 27-inch iMac displays, so at times using my 13-inch MacBook Air is a little cramped. I hope the watch is OK at that size. It was just difficult to really tell with the demo mode at the store instead of being able to pair with my phone and try some things out.

I have a 145mm wrist, 38 looks and feels much better on me. Very happy with it :)

I love the 38mm. It just looks and feels better on my 180mm/60mm wide wrist. Here's some shots of various 38's on my wrist:

As long as your wrist is under 200mm, you'll have no problem pulling off a 38mm.

Now that is how a watch should look like on the wrist
The watch is centre on the wrist with bands showing on either size
So many people wear watches with the watch face covering their whole wrist and it looks silly

I love my 38mm SS with classic black buckle.
Got a (small) 165mm wrist, and the 42mm looks just too big, more like 'look at me and my big smart watch' (my personal thoughts!).
I prefer a smaller and premium, but not noticeable watch. Hardly anybody notices my watch as being a smart/Apple watch and I like it. My watch is not for showing around I own Apple premium hardware and bragging about it, I wanted it for its usability and design.

Small wrist, 38mm is just great, big wrist, 42mm looks great. It is all personal and Apple gave me the choice of size and make, which I like.

You have a mirror in the kitchen? :p

Anyways, 38mm all the way. My Sport SG looks truly awesome on me. I have 155mm wrists.

Can you please describe how your Apple Watch is set up? Like which Glances are activated, is Hey Siri on and what you do over the day regarding the usage.

I just need some more experiences so I have more clearance wether my 38mm battery is ok or not, because i have the same issues as Cory Bauer.

Today i put on the AW at 7am and now we have 11am, battery is now on 86% and i literally did nothing with except raising my arm a few times. I just wanted to test this day doing "almost nothing" with the AW to see how much battery will be left at around 10pm.
