I have worn a pebble steel before and I didnt like watches before the pebble and I hated big watches.
I would say people who like the 38mm have not worn watches before the apple watch for a long time.

Here an other photo. On this the 42mm look enormus on me. But it doesnt as you can see on my other pictures.
Next to it a Samsung Galaxy Gear. Just for showing how small the 42mm is compared to other smartwatches.

I guess some people like the oversized look? That Gear is huge.

Or we've worn watches since before big watches were the rave. 36mm is considered a traditional men's watch size.

Um, no. Those look absolutely ridiculous on that tiny wrist. Here is what a watch will look like when not comically oversized:

A watch should appear to be worn by the human, not the human consumed by the watch. When your watch face spans the entire wrist, it bisects the arm and causes a dysmorphic appearance which is very disturbing, subconsciously.

is that the SS Black Link on the SS watch? First time I have seen that combo. Can you post a few more pics? I'm guessing you went to eBay for the band.

Yea, you'd be just a little short of 18 hours, that is heavy usage tho isn't it? I'll be real interested in how you make out with the 42. I really hope it works out for you.
Apart from using the workout app for 75-80 minutes, I would not consider my usage to be heavy. A dozen or so notifications, a few timers and alarms, and little to no app usage.

I'd say from the Battery side you would be OK. You will get to 16h of use easily with those 18% remaining. Do you constantly have 18h days? That would mean you have less than 6h sleep per day :( hopefully apple can push the watch's battery life in the next revision.
You're right, my days are typically 16-17 hours. Last night the Watch was at 4% when I put it on the charger after 16.5 hours, which is the best battery life I've seen from it so far during my typical days. But that's with absolutely no 3rd party application usage, very little usage of the built-in apps, and a battery with only 26 charge cycles on it; what happens when I start to find 3rd party apps I'd like to use and that battery begins to lose capacity in a year or three? If the Watch - on it's best day - just barely makes it until the end, I'm going to be in trouble in the future.

If the 42mm will get me a few extra hours, that'll be enough to remove the battery complication from the watch face and forget about it entirely for the life of the product.

This. So very well said.

I was also debating between the 38mm or 42mm. Initially when I went for my first try on, I never even thought about the 38mm cause it looked so small. I had my mind set on the 42mm the whole time - so I preordered it. With the long delivery times for the 42, I got fed up and ordered the 38 since I heard they were shipping much faster. Long story short, I think the 38 is a good size for me and decided to cancel the 42 that was on order. Here's a few pics (I have 160mm wrists btw):

Well, I am very happy with my 38!
I have a 180mm wrist and I see nothing wrong with the 38mm on my wrist.
I think the 42mm would be too big for me.
And heck, it's not like I am keeping this watch forever. in a few years Apple will have that hologram watch I will lust over! :)

I first laid eyes on the 38mm yesterday. I have an 42mm since two weeks ago. the difference is dramatic. I have no idea why you'd say that the difference isn't particularly noticeable because that my friend is not true.

I'm not saying that some men can pull the 38mm off, I'm just saying it's very very small. Especially since the 42mm is smaller than anyone expects from seeing the images online only.

I have both, and I disagree, I don't consider the difference to be dramatic.

I'm convinced that if Apple made a 46mm watch, many of the people around here would be saying that the 42mm is too small and trying to convince themselves that the 46mm looks better on them in person. Some people just can't get over the "bigger is better" mantra.

I had both too and the difference is dramatic!
Screen size difference is like iphone 4 to iphone 6.
And I would not have bought a 46mm and even not a 44mm.
The 42mm is the max Size I would like to wear every day.

So if next year the sizes would be 40mm and 44mm I would get the 40mm.

Black 42 was supposed to arrive in June but ordered a 38 on the 25th of April & got it 3days later. Canceled 42 for 38 that I got mid May

For what it's worth on the battery issue, I'm at about 12 hours of wear and am at 46% remaining. Perfectly acceptable in my book!

This thread needs to be sent to late night television. :D I think Fallon could do a short on this. I can't stop laughing at guy's taking pictures of their watch.

I was referring to fit, and how the device looks on the wrist, rather than screen size. Still, it seems like an interesting comparison.

The 38mm has 76% of the screen area of the 42mm. The iPhone 4 has 61% of the screen area of the iPhone 6. I therefore think you're overstating the difference with the watch.
