Wondering if there is any weight to this idea...

My iPhone was shipped from Shenzen today, so is a pretty fresh batch ;)

I used to be able to see the sensor in direct sunlight on the 3g & 2g phones.

I don't see mine at all. I wonder if the black coating was too thick?

Exactly. I don't see mine at all. However, I do not have any proximity sensor issues as far as I can tell, but perhaps for some this was causing an issue of sorts, who knows.

EDIT: Actually, under direct sunlight, like you said, I can indeed see the little proximity sensor, it looks black/purple compared to the rest of the black front. That's the only case in which I can see it. I'm not claiming this to be an issue or anything, just saying it's not as visible as it was in previous models.

Apple Begins to Revise iPhone 4 Production With Noticeable Changes

Gizmodo recently had a reader send in a story about how after he had his iPhone 4 replaced, his antenna and proximity sensor issues are practically gone. He claims that the black bezel is lighter, the proximity sensor is now fully visible and the stainless steel band appears and feels to be coated, and feels more matte.

Could Apple be slowly adjusting production so a very limited (but growing) number of new shipments are revised? While the revisions sounds like quick, ugly fixes, I'm sure many people would like their iPhone 4 replaced if this is true.

I can believe that. Apple does these things.

I laughed at my error. I copied an image out of the comments by mistake and pasted it here without realizing it . Link fixed.

This is BS! Look at your own phone. Now look at that photo. All they did was brighten the image in a photo editor so the sensor is more visible as well as the camera. What is black now looks gray. As for the steel band, I can't tell the difference. I WOULD NOT PUT IT PAST JIZZMODO TO FAKE THIS THEMSELVES!

This man is probably seeing what he wants to see or something along those lines. Usually it's not too hard to find what you're looking for if you know what I mean.

My phone is a week 26 My wifes is a 27 and the aluminum looked different to me when I picked it up.. Ill have to take a look to compare when she gets home..
