Too many people would be lining up for a replacement.. and it would just prove apple was wrong.

I would guess from a supply perspective they may be waiting for stores/retailers to be fully stocked with the revised model rather than announcing a recall and halting all sales. If there is a new model with antenna coating, it would almost make too much sense to allow all of the "old" models sell through at retail, the chain to be fully restocked with the new model, and then announce a recall. There would be no halt in sales, and phones would be plentiful for both recall swaps and new sales.

At east that's what I would do, and I've managed a messy project or 10.....

So should I go to the apple store and wink my eye at the genius, and say, 'there is a problem with the home button'??

Man...this is crazy...there gonna have to be a recall. Pretty much every phone is affected by at least 1 of 4 problems.

I'm affected by 2 mainly: yellowing camara and video and proximity sensor.

Cause of all the other cool things I can do with this Iphone 4 I tolerate it and work around the issues or try to ignore them (plus I'm a fan) But come on we can't expect the average consumer to put up with this stuff.

If they silently fix hardware and don't recall I will eventually go to an Apple store and ask for a replacement.

So what I'm saying is if Apple does nothing then I will just continue to "live with it" cause I rather have it as is with its flaw the not have it

I just got two replacement iPhones delivered to my door Monday. One 16gb and one 32gb and both exhibit a slow gradual decline in bars (usually 2-3 bars) when held in the lower left corner. This is exactly the same as the 2 launch day iPhones they replaced.

All 4 that i had in my possession at one time looked and appeared exactly the same from what i could tell.

how do you get your replacement deliver to your house?

This is ********. "The bezel was slightly less black...and the steel was less steel-y" What? Come on.

I bough an iPhone 4 this weekend, after Walmart got in a shipment of 10 on Saturday. The first thing I did? Try to replicate Death Grip. Didn't work. Second thing i did? Make a phone call and put my hand up to the sensor. Screen automatically went dark.

What I think is that some of the iPhones may be defective, but not all of them. if every single iPhone lost its signal that easily, I'm pretty sure Apple be in a total *****torm. But no, not every iPhone is messed up. In fact, not even MOST iPhones. Just a sizable quantity. And all the media needs is a few hundred cases and ZOOM, there it goes. It's just stupid.

a "story" from 1 report? really? ONE repot?

Hey gizmodo, my iPhone 4 does backflips to the ghostbusters theme. Better get writing.

Some random guy that hyperbolically uses hyperbole in internet videos creates an empty Twitter account that gets verified, then unverified...
now when Kid Charlemagne gets a verified Twitter account - that's first page news.

Then the more important question: Is there gas in the car?

I don not believe what Gizmodo reports here. I don't think there is any difference.

My friend got this phone today which is week 28 and he has that death-grip issue.

So much negativity in this forum. At least your post was funny.

HaHa. I shy away from the negative techie jargon, but as a lover of all things journalism, this "reporting" just stinks of slop.

Polls of a few hundred people are iffy at best. To report on something as substantial as a modified piece of iPhone 4 hardware due to one person is just lazy.

Silent recall?

Why wouldn't they sing it from the rooftops to counter all the bad publicity?

It wouldn't be unlike them. Read about the yellow iMac screens. They did pretty much the same thing.

They're a weird company. The more bad PR they get, the less likely they become to even speak to the press, regardless of how it looks.

It always seemed to me like an extension of Steve Jobs' personality. He's the type to rarely (if ever) admit when he's wrong and freeze people out if they piss him off even a little. The kind of guy who doesn't like to give people the satisfaction of an apology or an admission of guilt, and the bigger the storm the more entrenched he'll become.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, it's just the impression I get. it's funny how an entire company can become an extension of one person's personality though.

Lazy... Irresponsible... Desperate... But yeah, you would think they might at least do some more legwork to verify the credibility here.

If this was in fact true, why couldn't they take a picture of the old and new iPhone 4 hardware side by side?

Either Gizmodo are retards or they are lying.

What would happen to people with iPhone 4 if Apple revises and releases new hardware after the 30 day replacement period? We would still be able to get the revision right? Were people with the yellow iMac screen issue were able to get brand new replacements even after the return period?
