I sold my iphone4 and now using my droid. Love over the air updates and love pic push take a pic and it sends it to Flickr without having to do anything.also I think it has a better camera then the iphone4

So I've been pretty perturbed about the whole mess of my meaningless iPhone 4 "reservation" that reserved nothing but the right to stand in a stupidly long line, along with the horrible performance that plagues my 3G after the iOS 4 "upgrade." So much so, in fact, that I was looking at switching to Verizon/Droid.

I mentioned this to my not-so-tech-savvy wife who has come to actually enjoy her iPhone, and I was shot down remarkably quickly. She's the last person to worry about the style/cool factor of her phone (she was using an old Motorola StarTAC before I bought her first iPhone :) ) but cited the simplicity/ease of use of the iPhone.

So I don't know why I bring this up, other than to maybe temper my anger at Apple a bit and to share the realization that the iPhone is a pretty awesome product in the grand scheme of things.

I think a lot of the people posting to this thread are not getting your point. Apple has done a great job designing and marketing the iOS in a way that appeals to many demographics. As a married man, I know that a happy marriage involves give and take and cooperate decision making. I seriously do not see many woman responding to ads that show a sci-fi looking robot arm mashing buttons on a cell phone and then speaking with a sinister robot voice. It seems like android phones are being targeted to young to middle-aged tech savvy males, whereas Apple markets it's products as useful lifestyle tools that appeal to many. In other words, I think I see your point and it's an interesting and valid one.

I live in DC. Right now I'm spending 3 months working at the Cleveland Clinic. Apple will only ship an iPhone to the service address listed on the AT&T account. Being 400 miles from home makes it a little tricky to wait for the fedex man.

Just a FYI for next time... When placing the pre-order you do have to use the address associated with the AT&T account, but... After you place the order you can login to your Apple account and change the mailing address. This was advice I got from an Apple rep while placing a pre-order as a backup if I was not able to get my reserved iphone on launch day.

My sister has a Droid and her husband has the new Evo. They both laughed at me when I told them we'd be late to dinner because I had to return my new iPhone 4 for a replacement (I had the no-sound-with-movies-or-Facetime issue). But when I got to their place and synced it back up to my laptop, their jaws dropped at the vibrancy of the screen and the speed of the thing, especially in comparison to her Droid. The Evo was a little faster than the Droid but the whole lack of polish thing on Android phones just reeks of kludginess by comparison to iOS4.

My sisters Verizon contract is up in September. She was going to jump over to Sprint for the Evo but she's now very anxious to jump to the iPhone 4. It really has changed everything.....and all these little nits are totally just noise on the channel.

Your Wife is Right

@ Prolene - I agree with your wife.

I'm a gadget head, and the Droid interface looks less intuitive to me, much less for my older relatives who I've convinced to buy iPhones.

I just prefer the iPhone to iPhone-LIKE devices that could be fantastic were it not for such an effort to copy Apple. And this is from someone who only switched to Mac in '06, and had a $500 Razr then a $600 HTC before the iPhone was launched in '07. I paid top dollar because they had awesome phones. Now they're riding Apple's sack.

I guess it's good business though because now the iPhone isn't as unique, and people on other carriers can have a cool toy like the popular iPhone kids. :p

The Droid's camera is terrible.

Hey, when she's asleep go into her purse and get your man card back.

Which Droid...

Today I was at a friends house and her and he husband had matching, black Motorola Droids. The phone was black and had a slide out Qwerty to the left. It was running 2.1 firmware. Wondering which phone this was (I asked my friend and she was clueless)

My 15 minutes of tinkering was a bit boring. First the plus's. First and foremost, it had 3G service. The fact that the city has 65k and ATT doesn't have #G bothers me much. Actual phone features that were nice: Being able to see what apps are using your battery life, to the exact percentage.Wireless synch (though I didn't use this I saw it available in settings) The "back" or "previous" button.

Other than these features I found the phone a bit dull. The screen wasn't even as good as my 3GS when I had it. The phone is nothing to look at and seemed bulky. The touch screen, while decently responsive, didn't have the inertia you would like. The 5 megapixel camera was no where near the i4.

All in all I only used it for 15 minutes but would never purchase it. Just curious which Droid this is. They bought them like 4 months ago (if that narrows it down)

Just a note.... I held the phone in the "death grip and the signal dropped.

If it's a Motorola with a slide-out keyboard and Android 2.x, that would make it the Droid (A855). The Droid X doesn't have a keyboard. (I guess maybe it could've been a Backflip, but there aren't that many of those out there.)

Seems like your thread was moved to the right place. Hopefully this thread answers your question

That must be it then. Overall it was unimpressive. In fact, the OS seemed like it was "trying too hard" and thus, came across cheap. Lousy icons, trashy almost. Not sure what this phone costs but I would buy a BB before this. It was so bulky I was having Sidekick flashbacks.
