I have an issue with the messages app at the moment which has stumped me…

Now before iOS16 whenever I received a text or iMessage they appear on all of my devices as expected and no matter which device I deleted the message on it would also delete on all of my other devices as expected.

My devices are iPhone/iPad/iMac

However, since iOS16 both me and my partner have the following issue…

If we delete a message on our iPhone it deletes on all of our other devices, however, if I delete a message on any other device (iPad or iMac) it deletes from all of our devices apart from our iPhone, the message will remain solely on the iPhone…. Not sure if this is a bug with iOS16 or whether this may be due to the fact that the upcoming MacOS and iPadOS still haven’t been released yet.

If others could test that would be great.

I can test this issue on all three devices, but have a question. On which device was the message created?

I have tried creating a message on all devices… when a message is created it appears on all devices, but when deleting the message the above happens.

I had this issue before on the beta with SMS messages only, but my devices all sync fine now no matter what device I delete the message with, all my devices sync.

On iPadOS 16.1 beta, MacOS 13 beta and iOS 16.

In that case it may be a sync issue with the iPad and Mac not being on the ‘latest’ versions possibly…

Thanks for clarifying definitely a sync issue between software versions then. Thanks for testing it out appreciate it as it saves me hours phoning Apple 😂
I'll try to remember to follow up in this thread once the other updates are released.

For issues like this, Apple and all software companies are the worst at trying to solve these.

I'm surprised Apple didn't put in more support into the 15.7 or 12.7 releases, knowing that they're delaying the releases till Oct.

Also have issues blocking imessage contacts, if I block a contact on the iPhone on iOS 16 and Watch OS 9, the phone will block all messages from that contact but the watch still receives them as normal.

In iOS 15 and Watch OS 8 this was never a problem, I could block and unblock without issues. Tried resetting imessage on both, logging out of my accounts and even repairing the watch, nothing seems to fix it.

Definitely a few bugs intrduced in messages since adding new features.

This issue is not isolated to ios16. I have a post from this spring detailing similar issues while in ios15. There is some underlying software bug that corrupts something in iCloud and causes syncing issues in iMessages (among other issues ).

call apple and open a ticket. They have tracked my issue and many others with iCloud syncing.

Good idea, but good luck with that. At least where my calls get transfered to (EMEA), the support is really really not professional and qualified

Another issue I have found is when my iPhone rings non of my other devices ring (they all used to previously), however, when I am on my iPad or Mac they ring no problem

Same issue here: Delete a message thread from iOS16, instantly removed from macOS 12.5.1. Delete message thread from macOS 12.5.1, remains in place on iOS16. Even after fully signing out of iCloud and power cycling the iPhone.

IOS 16 knocked out cellular service on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's been two days now. I have talked to apple support (up to senior level tech) about four times, and they can't fix the issue. My carrier (Xfinity Mobile) gave me a free new Sim card. That didn't fix it. First Apple blamed Xfinity Mobile, and then Xfinity Mobile blamed Apple. I just hung with senior tech for Apple. We were on the Applewatch phone for about an hour and a half. She couldn't resolve the issue. She says I need to go the Apple store now as a walk in. I'm heated! No one has offered to replay the phone (which not even two years old and I never had an issue with it until I tried to update it with the IOS 16 system). I'm highly frustrated and about to look at Apple differently (I own an iMac, iPad, iPhone and Applewatch. All Apple!!!).

Same issue here...Delete from iphone deletes on all other devices...Delete from Mac keeps message on iphone....Like others, at least I'm not alone

Yes! I just discovered this exact same issue this morning and posted in another area. This issue did not exist for me until iOS 16. I have iPhone 14pro running iOS 16.0.1 and iPad Pro running iPad os 15.7. Haven’t checked on my mac Studio running the latest os.

I think it’s just a syncing issue between iOS 16 and iOS15/macOS12 tbh

I'm definitely having the same issue and must have logged out of iCloud, restart, reboot, clear caches a dozen times. Definitely some kind of one way synch/data lock or permissions issue.

Whenever I delete from my Mac nothing deletes from iPhone. Delete from iPhone it's practically instantaneous on the Mac. Can't believe this wasn't obvious during release testing or some form. It's not an esoteric feature by any stretch.

I’m having the same issue - deleting an iMessage on certain devices does not sync the delete to all devices. Sync is working across all devices when it comes to sending and receiving messages - it’s just the delete function where there appears to be some issues.

Basically, if I delete a message from the iPhone, it’s syncing on all devices and deleting that message. If I delete a message from ANY of the other devices, it will sync and delete everywhere EXCEPT on the iPhone.

I’ve tried turning iMessage off and back on on all devices. I’ve “unsynced” everything from iCloud and turned it back on to sync. I’ve restarted all devices. I’ve checked to make sure that they are all showing my cell and my email as being able to receive messages and all are set up to originate messages from my cell number. I’ve made sure that on the iPhone text message forwarding is turned on for the other three devices.

Anyone find a solution yet, or are we just at the mercy of Apple fixing the bug/issue in a future update?

I just saw this thread. I encountered the same issue immediately after upgrading my phone to ios 16 and my iPad is at iOS 15.7. I went through the process of deleting all messages on both devices and resetting the iMessage setting and the same problem occurs. I receive messages on both devices. If I delete from my phone, they are deleted from my iPad. However, deleting from the ipad will not delete from the phone. I suspect this is related to the fact that in iOS 16 messages are in a ”trash” folder until permanently deleted and the iPad won’t get this feature until iPadOS 16.
