I thought it was just me. It is very frustrating to have to delete texts on multiple devices because the syncing of the delete is no longer working. I tried signing out of iCloud, restarting, signing back in, and the behavior remains. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Just ran into this problem. I had deleted a ton of threads on my iPad and they were all still on my iPhone. Kind of annoying that Apple didn’t take this into account especially since they delayed the release of iPadOS and macOS.

Glad this was posted, I came here to post the same thing.

Driving me nuts, as I can't delete an SMS message from my iPhone. I'm hoping that an update fixes this.

Same issue here but I’ve discovered something interesting if I explain it well. Like you say, delete message from iPhone and it deletes from all devices. Delete from iPad and it remains on iPhone but I’ve discovered that if you go into a message on your iPad and choose to delete something specific within the message thread, for instance a photo that was sent or a particular reply that was sent in the message, then it will delete that part of the message on the iPhone as well!!!! Bizarre! So are we assuming this is something everyone is suffering from? If so, I’m surprised there isn’t more about it on the web?

I have an issue with the messages app at the moment which has stumped me…

Now before iOS16 whenever I received a text or iMessage they appear on all of my devices as expected and no matter which device I deleted the message on it would also delete on all of my other devices as expected.

My devices are iPhone/iPad/iMac

However, since iOS16 both me and my partner have the following issue…

If we delete a message on our iPhone it deletes on all of our other devices, however, if I delete a message on any other device (iPad or iMac) it deletes from all of our devices apart from our iPhone, the message will remain solely on the iPhone…. Not sure if this is a bug with iOS16 or whether this may be due to the fact that the upcoming MacOS and iPadOS still haven’t been released yet.

If others could test that would be great.

I just saw this thread. I encountered the same issue immediately after upgrading my phone to ios 16 and my iPad is at iOS 15.7. I went through the process of deleting all messages on both devices and resetting the iMessage setting and the same problem occurs. I receive messages on both devices. If I delete from my phone, they are deleted from my iPad. However, deleting from the ipad will not delete from the phone. I suspect this is related to the fact that in iOS 16 messages are in a ”trash” folder until permanently deleted and the iPad won’t get this feature until iPadOS 16.
If that’s the case, I’m scuppered because my iPad is not new enough to have ios16 installed!

That is very strange but it looks as though this is a problem across the board and most likely a compatibility issue between the different OS’s.

Mmmm… yeah I didn’t think of that, I presume alongside iPadOS 16 they will likely release an iPadOS 15.7.1 to address the compatibility issues, or at least I would hope that they do.

As I say, I’m surprised Apple haven’t been inundated with this issue and have publicly acknowledged the problem to save people going through all the usual procedures trying to solve it. e.g. Resetting devices, deleting message threads etc etc.

This is a known issue that will be resolved with Ventura. Currently resolved in the betas.

I am facing same issue. No solution yet.

Yeah apparently this isn’t happening with iPadOS 16 either so I think it’s just an issue with iPadOS15 syncing with iOS16
It’s just so weird it works one way but not the other with regards to deleting messages. I guess most people have iPads that have iPadOS16 on them. My iPad is an iPad Air 2 which is not compatible with iOS 16. Is this Apple’s way of telling me I have to upgrade my iPad? Or can we expect a fix?

I don't think 16 is out yet for iPad

Oh. Ok. It’s just that someone said in an earlier post that the problem wasn’t happening with iPadOS16? Post #37
Must be running the beta. When Ventura and iPadOS 16 gets released issues should be resolved. Unsure if it will get resolved in future Monterey or iOS/iPadOS 15 updates.

I have contacted Apple about this issue: they have acknowledged it and told me it would be fixed in a later iOS release.
For me the issue plays out as follows:

DELETE IS SYNCHED FOR :

✅Single message from Mac to iPhone

✅Single message from iPhone to Mac

✅Conversation from iPhone to Mac

❌Conversation from Mac to iPhone

Moving to MacOS Ventura, iPad OS 16 and iOS 16.1 solved the issue on my side, and you guys ?

I'm still having this issue with an iPhone on iOS 16 and an iPad on iOS 16. Some messages show up on the iPad but not on the phone, and also the other way around.
