They do not. In fact you don't even need to be on the same version of iOS.

Star Wars speaks to me. It's not worth $2 though. Maybe that's just me. I'm sure it will appeal to somebody though. Apparently niantic has made $440m off of selling
Poke balls and incense. There's a sucker born every minute as they say.

Okay, it doesn't speak to you now. But when you start getting texts with stickers from friends or family, you might change your mind. And if we are really only talking about $2 and it is so easy to buy with touch ID, it will be a fun impulse purchase that many and possibly even a majority will buy.

Agreed - first time I get Hodor sent to me with a message from a friend asking me to wait whilst I get something they will be getting a sticker right back.

Exactly, that is why the marketing is viral. The customers market for the product by using it with friends. Get ready for the Kardashian sticker pack to be the number one seller.

So that's just my own experience then. And I think it may depend a bit on the country as well. WhatsApp is by far the most popular messaging service in the Netherlands, I learned about a few months ago. That might make a big difference. :p

Correct. Apps like WhatsApp got super popular right up until Apple introduced Messages (i.e. more than just SMS text messages). After that, popularity of 3rd party apps tanked in the US. Most of my international friends use WhatsApp, Skype, etc.

This is the natural progression of messaging. The LINE app, which is huge in Asia, has had stickers for a long time, and they charge for many of the packs. When I lived over there and used the app to talk to my friends, i originally thought stickers were stupid and a waste of money.

Then those Star Wars stickers came out and I like "F*** it, I'm getting some." :)

Facebook followed suit by introducing their own stickers.

So, Apple doing it makes sense. A) it's what customers want (maybe not *you* in particular... yes, you. I'm looking right at you. ;) ) and B) is creates additional revenue for 3rd parties (pittance, really) and C) allows for promotional opportunities for 3rd parties (movie studios always capitalize on stickers in the Line App).

I really don't see myself paying money for little pictures to send back and forth. I also never paid for a ringtone or and such thing in my life. Too many free to use options for me. Perhaps I am in the minority.

Messages is getting more like Microsoft messenger in the old days... I always found it childish... But it will do well amongst the younger ones, I guess

I have a question for someone who knows, if I download a sticker pack, will the other person see it if I send it but they don't have the same sticker pack? I'm assuming and hoping that they would.

Not sure if this has been answered yet (i'm only on page 2 of the comments right now) but yes. The only issue there seems to be is if you put a hat or something on a picture you send, I don't think it comes through right unless they are on iOS 10. For example, I put the mario hat on a picture of my daughter, the picture came through on my wifes phone, then the hat came through separately

So disappointed -- can't find the Keith Haring stickers I saw onscreen during the keynote last week. :\
You are not alone. That was one of the things that had me most excited. I have a Radiant Baby decal on my truck, and people associate me with it. Being able to incorporate his art into my messages would be awesome.

How on earth do I put stickers on photos? If I put a photo in a message and then try to add a sticker, it just asks me if I want to replace the photo.

And why do the four dots for the Messages App Store look like graphics from a Commodore 64?

If you want to put a sticker on a photo, you select the photo, send it, then grab the sticker you want, and drag it onto the photo that was already sent. I couldn't figure out how to do it, then found a post online last night. There might be a different way, but this is the only way I've figured out so far.

It's now available! $2 though.

Don't you mean that Messages is getting functionality that will appeal to a demographic but has no impact on the core functionality and you can happily ignore it?
