If I saw my lawyer wearing a back pack, I'd be making calls for new council. ASAP. Same goes for accountant, doctor, architect,...

I love my Coach leather messenger bag; it's a slim version so it's perfect for my 13" but a 15" wouldn't fit. When I got it it was a little over $400, so not super expensive.

400 dollars is not super expensive? LOLLL

I think $400 is on the steep end for a Coach bag, but it's not super expensive. Quality stuff is expensive, leather is expensive, nice canvas is expensive, etc. With most luxury or upper mid-level brands you can generally rest assured that production takes place in factories that meet minimum safety standards and where the employees get paid decent wages, which cannot be said for the cheap, disposable crap Western consumers seem to love so dearly. That said, you're obviously also paying a premium for the brand, but people who argue that the entire price markup is due to the brand are wrong imo. Personally, I always try to buy stuff that is made in Europe or the US if possible, but then again, I prefer buying something expensive once and keep it for a long time.

It's not dorky. I rock a messenger bag to school everyday and my 13" MBP fits perfectly along with my books. I do, however, keep a neoprene sleeve inside the bag to slide my computer into. This is the bag by the way:

It is not dorky at all but I really don't get people who give **** about what it looks like when they run around with this or that kind of bag.

I used an essl backpack for a while. It is designed for ski-mountaineering and the great thing about it you can fill it up with heavy stuff and it never gets uncomfortable to wear.

Late I found some old messenger bag at a friends house. He gave it to me. You can see its old but it serves its purpose very well. My sister wanted to buy me some new sort of designer bag with a kind of leathery plasticy design made of some recyclable stuff. I didn't want it because I really think using old stuff that works perfectly fine and has no holes is 100 times more environmentally friendly than buying a new one made of recycled stuff. I also am not a huge fan of stuff that looks so new, new stuff misses character.

Most young people I know use messenger bags. The benefit over backpacks is that they are quite small when empty and fit all the everyday stuff very well. If you walk far or long or take the bus to work I would prefer a backpack.
A friend got one made of bicycle tubes that was quite. Nice 100% waterproof, very solid, easy to fix if it gets a hole. Mine is just some random standard cloth it can hold of water for a short while only.

I checked online, it's $350 now. I want to say it was around $400 when I got it a little over a year ago. I honestly don't think it's that expensive for something that's made of high quality leather, will last a long time, looks great, and is functional while still being simple (without all kinds of "features" that imo look stupid).

Most(all?) of my leather items are coach(wallets, passport case, toiletry bag, messenger bag, etc) and honestly feel they make much nicer goods that other "premium" brands. I have a Gucci duffle carry-on and wallet(well, had a wallet) that, to me, don't justify the price(and I know they're real, both are from Neiman); yeah they're nice, but it feels like something from Delsey or Kenneth Cole would be the same quality. So I don't feel bad paying a premium for Coach, because the quality is there.
