I think in a way Ready Player One was quite insightful. It showed a metaverse as a central spill for a large number of gameworlds, and games have been shown to have a persistent pull to get people online. If you can get buy-in from the games manufacturers to support your metaverse, it might stay around as more than a novelty.

And pulling in more millions of dollars than I’ve ever made in a year. There are lots of companies started way more recently doing way worse.
The content creators also know that if they get in early and luck up on the “next big thing” they could be billionaires or selling their company for billions in a year. I have to say, if I had 2 billion in revenue, but only was getting 1 billion… I think I could live comfortably. :)

100% of the revenue… minus the hosting. And the streaming costs. And the administrative staff to keep the hosting and streaming servers up and secured. AND the support staff to deal with issues from consumers, to keep those who genuinely enjoy what’s being created, happy. Oh, and if there’s money being exchanged, then that’s a whole ‘nother set of servers (or maybe just pay a fee for someone else to process) perhaps an accountant that can help deal with all of the different currencies in the world, plus a tax expert that will make sure there’s no arcane tax that’s being missed…

These services exist because they’re beneficial to the creators, most who just want to “create” and make it available.
Definitely understand those points, and I'm sure a lot of creators will agree with you and go along for the ride. A large chunk seems fair for all those services and the security you mentioned, but not 50%. If they were horrified by Apple's 30%, then yeah, it seems a little dense to pitch it 20% higher. The Metaverse is going to fall flat on its face anyway and is already facing backlash. People have real world things they're focusing on right now. There will be a healthy number of college students and teenagers on there, though, and my guess is there won't be as much to split 50/50 as they're thinking. Cause we all know how much money teenagers and college students have. Adults are getting back to work. But you make a good counter argument, and I won't argue with those things. They're all the reason that people choose to create their content with someone like a Facebook or Instagram. You're right.

I expect that they’re horrified by the 50% and are simply letting themselves be blinded by the expectation of enormous wealth… people are “playing the Metaverse” like the “play the lottery”, certainly with greater up front costs.

It seems a lot of people are finally getting it. The ones that still don't are folks with no understanding of "computers". I cringe when I'm asked to solve a problem on someone's phone or other device where they state proudly upfront "I don't know anything about computers"

Lambs to the slaughter.

There should be a license required to get online. Maybe an IQ test and a civics course as well while we're at it. It's like if you wanna fly a plane you need a license. We have a zillion internet "pilots" buzzing around "cyberspace" with no clue how to taxi, takeoff, fly, navigate, communicate, land without crashing, maintain their airplane, etc etc

Actually it's not that bad. It's much, much worse!

I'll help people with computers from time to time and they're still blown away that you can do command(control🤮)-c, control-v. Scary to think the percentage of people that don't know keyboard shortcuts even exist.
