Finally MacRumors is actually reporting on MicroCenter, which I’ve been urging for years. They have excellent prices and customer service.

This is not the first time, I remember them having an article about deals on the iMac Pro just after Apple released them, $1000 off. (IIRC)

You can find the link down below.

iMac Pro is $1,000 Off at Micro Center Stores, Now $3,999 While Supplies Last

Yep.

Damn, they're already sold out of the 256GB model in Chicago. The iMac Pro is still on sale ($500 off instead of $1000) so hopefully this sale survives some restocks too.

Last I read was retailers don't earn any money on Apple devices. What they earn money on is the accessories people also buy when they buy one of the Apple devices.
A neighbour of mine set himself up as an authorised Apple reseller a decade ago. His best margin on any Apple item was 7%. Apple gave him a whole load of requirements about how his shop was to look like etc but as an organisation was singularly unhelpful to deal with. He was also not allowed to sell the Mac Pro for some reason never explained to him.

He ditched Apple for Bose eventually, who were much improved in terms of support.

Consider it $100,000 to $200,000 spent on advertising the Micro Center brand.

It's far better than spending that same amount on printed flyers or Google AdWords.
It worked on me, and it makes perfect sense it's an in-store only deal. I didn't even know there was a MicroCenter in my area and now I do. I'm not in the market for this MacBook Air, but if went in for this I'm sure I'd find myself browsing around and exercising my terrible impulse control when it comes to gadgets...

Sure it's a great deal if you want one of the two configurations offered. Not good if you want to increase th RAM and HD to 1.5TB......Not even offered. Use the education discount almost as good.

Reserved a Space Grey 256gb in Marietta, GA....only 1 SG/256 left there now.

I did before a few years ago and nothing was posted. Then I gave up, but good to see you’re posting them now. People just attacked me back then claiming they were a “regional” store and that was why MacRumors wasn’t posting anything from them. Clearly they aren’t a “regional” store since they are in every region of the US. They don’t have many stores, true, but they are not “regional”.

Excellent price on machines straight out of the oven. It’s a shame they weren’t ready in time for back to school. A lot more would have been sold.

Price anchor high so sale prices can be immediately offered to get people buying units and, to your point, accessories.

Not really. Many people prefer to buy them at Apple stores. Besides you have to have a Micro Center in your area. Also build to order won’t be discounted until B&H has plenty later on.

The deals are there for those who look for them and Apple still takes full retail from those who don’t. It ends up working out for everyone.

That is great Microcenter allow online reserves for in store pick up. Will consider them the next time I buy Apple tech.

I remember with the iMac Pro they kept getting stock in while running that $1000 off sale.

A much better price and awesome that MC is doing that so soon after launch.

Shame we don't have such deals here, guess living in the States has some advantages.
You mean certain states. There doesn't appear to be a Micro Center store in mine.

Education discount is $50 off Apple's asking price. I would argue that isn't "almost as good" as $200 off Apple's asking price.

When the 2016 MacBook Pro was announced they had the same $200 off the intro level non-touchbar. This is fairly common. I often wait till they discount whatever my next tech purchase is to make my purchases

That wasn't a slight on Microcenter. I was in one while visiting the midwest once (Minneapolis I think) and it seemed like a good geek-oriented store (more real hardware and less fluff than a big box store). I was referring to the price of Apple cables and adapters you end up buying with each new device :)

I bought the iPhone X a year ago, replaced my MacBook Pro a few months later, and plan to get an iPad Pro at the end of month, and none of these purchases required purchasing cables or adapters, what am I doing wrong?

The Micro Center here in Dallas blew through these in a day. Sold friggin out! Crazy!
