You can put together much better read/write speeds with a TB3 external drive NvME enclosure and an NvME drive, than you can with this thing.
I am sure that you could, but it would also be priced at $800-$1000.

And you would be very wrong.
Please, build me a TB3 enclosure with a 4TB NVMe SSD for $490.

The cheapest 4TB NVMe on Newegg.com is currently $500, it is an off brand name and has not so great reviews.

The cheapest on Amazon is $530, with no reviews.

The cheapest on Best Buy is $500 and bad reviews.

If you want to get something more name brand like WD, it will be $800+ retail, and maybe sub-$700 if on sale.

This is not counting the cost of the TB3 enclosure which will probably be an additional $100 dollars.

Even with the cheapest possible options (without getting into used stuff), you are still going to be well over the $490 that this external drive costs.

SSD for $70? This is HDD prices here. I remember when it was priced for $200 and was considered a very good deal. I never thought they would get so low. Maybe I am old.

I bought one of these 4tb Crucial drives. I like it. Its pretty fast and gets no hotter than the Sandisk 2TB SSD i already had. Its pretty expensive but very small for the capacity.
