Maybe Microsoft shouldn't have shut down its own Zune software (which i prefer to the iTunes current version, but not the last version)

Either that or get people to use winamp for win8

What happened to handing a glass of water to someone in hell?

Apple isn't on the charity business you know. Why should they spend tons of cash, allocate resources, etc. to make an app for an operating system that - at least for the time being - has little future? I believe it would be wiser to bring iTunes to other Linux distributions instead - much closer to OSX and about the same market share ;)

Le Sigh - iTunes already works on Windows 8. The issue that is being asked is about a native (see ModernUI) iTunes for Windows 8 - I don't see it happening because Apple wants to maintain a consistent look and feel across Windows and Mac OS X as well as maintaining their own unique Apple branding when on Windows rather than it being subsumed into Windows 8 to the point that it loses its identity.

If the bigger point was Microsoft wanting iTunes on Windows RT (and thus needs to be using WinRT) then maybe Microsoft should provide the ability for application developers to write desktop applications using WinRT/XAML and then deploy it on Windows RT to be run in a desktop environment. Microsoft needs to realise that ModernUI isn't the be all or end all thus not always relevant to every software title.

Btw, anyone see the local IT rags raving about how "Apple is behind Microsoft" because Apple wasn't stupid enough to do the suicidal move of merging their tablet and desktop operating system together like what Microsoft has done with Windows 8? I really have to ask how the heck some of these so-called journalists get their job because I almost vomited in my mouth hearing someone defend such a horrible decision by Microsoft to merge two different devices operating systems into one then explain away claiming that a touch screen is useful of a desktop.

btw, if I was Apple I'd say, "sure, we'll do an iTunes in the ModernUI and in return we want you to do give us a feature complete version of Office that is feature for feature equal to the Windows version and not the half ass half baked crap being sold today".

Same here. The only people I know that "love it" are also the same people who are Apple haters. I think they force themselves to love it just to not recognize that OSX might be better. HAHAHA

Honestly, I tried to like it, but I found it useless and confusing, only good as a gimmick and to 'impress' your friends (really?).

As of a while ago, Microsoft announced that they had sold 100,000,000 Win8 licenses.

Are there even that many Macs in the wild, total?

Selling 100,000,000 copies to companies/pc builders is one thing. Getting these 100,000,000 windows 8 inside people's houses and lives is another totally different thing...

Seems to me Apple'd be far smarter to give MS fans an Apple door to media than to have Google or Amazon take the opportunity instead.

hot garbage

i cannot even get the itunes window to fit right in the windows 8 desktop. itunes 11 is so bad and confusing to someone who has been using itunes for as long as i can remember across both platforms that i am starting to get the urge to jump ship. anyone else feel this way? i mean its getting so bad. what happened to "it just works"?

I think Microsoft and Apple do a lot of work together as they are now. I mean, Office for Mac is "pretty good", a lot better than Pages or Numbers. The two companies have an excellent relationship, given they are in direct competition. Even though I don't use Windows 8, or plan to, it would be nice to see Apple make a Metro app for Microsoft.

How is this news?

Releasing iTunes on the Microsoft Marketplace means not simply porting iTunes but instead designing it with the Metro design guidelines in mind, a complete redesign of iTunes.

Why would Apple create a completely new app for Windows RT, the OS that is not really gaining any traction in the market?

For regular Windows 8, iTunes will run just fine.

A port of iTunes for Windows RT?

Never!

That's like porting iTunes to Android or - if you keep the very low marketshare of Windows RT in mind - for WebOS.

I can't believe this, but that is 100% true. Any enterprise machines that are sold are Windows 7, but they consider that a Windows 8 sale.

This is true, and a definite way they inflate sales numbers. They did the same thing with Vista. At the enterprise level, where I work we'd buy computers and would be given a Windows Vista license, which provided the option to downgrade to XP. BUt it would still count as a Vista install.

The same is true today with Windows 8. The machines we buy nominally get sold with 8 but we can ask the vendor to "sidegrade" to a 7 install. But since we're technically licensed for 8 on those systems, it counts as a sale.

So they want iTunes to connect a 'tablet' to a tablet? Makes sense. /s

Most people just install a startup replacement and ignore metro altogether.

Still Windows 8 is faster than Mountain Lion at least on my macs. (I do need windows for some weird 3D work)

And last time I checked iTunes on windows was really slow.

I really don't understand what is so "hard" about Windows 8, it's like people wilfully like to admit they aren't that bright

somethings may not be great, but certainly not "hard" to learn

"there's no reason for Apple to help make the Surface a better product."

What about selling more app's, music, etc;? I know you can do that through the desktop version, but still.

Even Google keeps make stuff for iOS because it makes them money.

Good News. Windows 8 stays better by not adding iTunes.

Lets not make Windows 8 even worse by adding iTunes. Sorry, but the worst thing about my Mac....It comes with iTunes. It has gotten better, but still bad.

how 'bout apple makes itunes for windows8, and microsoft makes a good version of office for mac? sounds like a good deal to me:p

I was just thinking the same thing: "We'll swap you iTunes on Surface for MS Office on iOS. Deal?"
