I'm pretty sure that's the tweet, not Microsoft marketing lingo. When they showed off the intel Ultrabooks, there was nary a mention of the Macbook Air.
Nary a mention, except some really obvious photoshopping of Apple's iconic advertising:

And Apple's original image:

Edit, here's another Intel photochop:

Does anyone else find it funny that Microsoft uses the term "Retina Display" like it's the name of a technology, while it's a marketing name Apple created.

Next thing you will know, Microsoft will officially use this term everywhere and object to Apple's patent claiming it's a generic term.

You honestly think Apple doesn't already know and with their wealth and legal staff bigger than Microsoft's that they won't send them a shot over the bow?

Graphic editing and Video editing. I would give body parts to use photoshop on a monitor with that res.

CAD/CAM/FEA/CFD/ All types of Software Development. Even Technical Writing to Novels.

More screen real estate is always welcome.

90% of business's worldwide disagree with your statement.

90% of that 90% is most likely locked-in, and the remaining 10% actively chose Microsoft because Apple gave up on business long ago and perhaps the freebie Linux looked unprofessional to them at the time... My guesstimate, of course.

And the evil cycle perpetuates itself because of inter-operability issues. To this day, there's still lots of companies providing web services which require Internet Explorer/Active X etc, you should see there faces when you tell them there is people in this world who do not run Windows. It's like telling them about methane-breathing animals.

This will be absolutely fantastic for gaming.

Not only will this encourage NVidia and AMD to produce even more powerful GPUs but this will simply make games look brilliant. I've compared the 160 PPI of my iPhone 3GS to the 326 PPI of the iTouch 4 with Infinity Blade and the difference is amazing.

Microsoft aren't doing anything...

ATI + Nvidia will support the high res screens... (which they actually already do..)

And company like LG Samsung.. Etc make the panels for all the other companies (Inc apple) lol silly them.

its a stupid term that only a company as arrogant as apple could brainwash people by redefining an already known term; high res. great marketing, sure, but that doesn't make the term 'retina display' sound any less ridiculous. apple's ego since the ipod has gone through the roof, and so has its fanbase.

I wish apple would go back to making great computers rather than going apewild on stupid toys like the ipad.

Welcome to marketing in Technology, which, is all about buzzwords. I am not sure how Apple is any different than their competition in this regard, unless ones sole purpose in life is to hate Apple.

It sounds like what you want is a Mac Pro. You probably don't want to pay for it, though.

No, we want a headless iMac. The processors inside them are fine, the video cards are not. Apple does this strategically to gouge its customers. When PC users make the comparison that a similar performing desktop can be built for a third of the price, its because its true. The Xeon processors are great, but not totally necessary, I would know because I have a mac pro with TWO ati 3870 in crossfire mode via windows, and one with a modded heatsink to lower temps and noise. I'm not an ignorant noob.

the problem is within apple:
a) don't give customers too much choice
b) whe choice is given, make it very limited

apple has NEVER been about choice, its a term/word that doest exist in the company. and if you think that I did have choice by getting the 3870s, those were too little too late as other superior options always exist on the pc side for literally half the price.

if this isnt something that pisses you off about it, because it should, you really need to see thing objectively.

How dare you? Apple is the only arrogant company in the industry :)

Thats great for Microsoft users - now the Blue screen will be in super HD!

It's gonna come in handy now that Windows supports antialiasing of text :)

yes, my sole purpose in life is to hate apple.

why is it that anytime someone criticizes apple, especially here its always seen as hating rather trying to push apple to do things right which, much to your disbelief, would mean better products for you.

imagine that, someone wanting apple to make better products... who would have thought??

pot, kettle.

Matte screen please. Can someone explain what could take advantage of 3840x2160?

Monitor manufacturers get to profit from selling the higher res displays

GPU manufacturerers get to profit from selling the higher spec GPUs

Computer manufacturers get to sell new models, barely quicker for every day tasks than their current line up by making their newest displays only work with their newest systems

Overall, a big win for everyone apart from the average user who'd be fine with the DPI of their current display for every day tasks and the saving it has over potentially very expensive "Because they can make it" technology.

Really got my cynical head on today :D

When are these going to be commercially viable though and rolled out on every laptop as standard? 5 years maybe? I mean it's pretty cool but i don't see that's absolutely necessary yet, guess it's good for security though

I didn't say you specifically, you are free to infer whatever you like from my post.

Regardless, Exactly how is your comment pushing apple to excel?

Sounds more like a rambling diatribe, than it does constructive criticism.

And how is exactly stating a fact, being arrogant?

Now, read your register date...
It must be a slow week at the Android forums.

please be relevant, thank you.

I get a lot of flack when I call out apple on certain things. but yeah, I did go of course a bit.

Im scared to even think what games will look like in 10 years time. It will be mind blowing.
