I was surprised this functionality didn't exist already. I suspected that Apple would bring iMessage to iCloud.com, but now that Messages incorporates both iMessages and SMS I suppose they won't. I'm not sure how that'd work using a foreign computer.

So with their idiot decision to make the new Skype minimum requirement be Mavericks, their web app will be supported by Safari 6? o_O This is good news for those that can't even upgrade their computers.

Use Chrome or FireFox. They support 10.6 and earlier don't they?

Well it's about bloody time! Nowadays you shouldn't have to install software to do basic things like keep in touch with people.

My point was that the web app will work in a web browser on older Macs, but the designated desktop application only works in Mavericks and higher. Unsupported Macs will now be able to use the web app, at the very least. Your comment regarding Chrome/Firefox has nothing to do with them discontinuing support for older Macs for their main application.

But going back to your Chrome/Firefox comment, Firefox will work, but only the Windows version of Chrome will work with the Skype web API. So Firefox or Safari 6 will work.

Oh, I apologize, I thought you meant that Safari 6 was a minimum requirement and that was why older Macs were left out. I was just mentioning that older Macs can use this web interface with other browsers.

I still think it was bad to limit the Desktop app to Mavericks.

No worries. That's what I meant.

Yeah, it's pretty dumb.
