As a non-fanboi this is very interesting to me. But since Ive switched to android for phone my only ios device is the ipad so I,m not switching tablets. If I had the extra jingle Id seriously consider getting one though

no you look...

1) you think that Apple invented the black bezel?

2) do you think that apple invented the magnetic on/off functionality? news flash, Blackberry devices have had that feature for over 10 years (gasp!!!) Apple calls it "smart", when actually it's mostly dumb people who are fascinated by it. how ironic

i have an iPad 2 and it's useful for certain things. throwing a keyboard onto it doesn't fully make it a laptop replacement. throwing a keyboard with a trackpad does. most apple fanatics are in denial that a keyboard+trackpad accessory for their iPad would make it one heck of amazing device. i honestly don't see Apple doing that though from a business standpoint because it could severely (and i mean SEVERELY) cut into Macbook Pro 13" base model and refurb model sales.

I'm not going to get into an argument about how much something was copied. It can't really go anywhere when you think about it.

Anyway, I see a use for a trackpad for the iPad if you were to use the iPad with a stand on your desk. Touching the iPad on your desk as if it were an iMac would be annoying. The keyboard would add a lot of functionality when you're not at a desk, though. I'd actually use it to take notes and do work at school if they had that.

I've always said if anyone was going to challenge the iPad it was going to be Microsoft not google. I don't know if this is it but look at computers. Apple has what 10% market share? Windows has like 85%. If Microsoft can somehow harness the developer support windows has and make it work in a tablet......apple is in trouble. But I'm not so sure Microsoft can even get out of their own way long enough to pull it off.

Go to Brookstone and you will find many case/keyboard combos. I use the Apple BT keyboard and it works great. Stop trolling.

Does saying anything against Apple immediately make me a "troll" here?

Sorry for offending Apple, but the Apple BT keyboard does not roll up. Roll-up keyboards in general are nothing new, and the "Smart Cover" lacking one is dumb.

Oh, and my Apple BT keyboard did not even work with the iPad 2 probably because my keyboard is old (white plastic, not aluminum). What a joke.

And what other devices do you need for AirPlay to work? How does AirPlay help me while I am at airport, or on an airplane, or at a park, or a event, or any other places without AirPlay or in even in your own bathroom?

Nice product but I still think the iPad is well ahead of it. It looks fragile and plastic :(.

if you actually read the article, you would know it's made out of magnesium

The only problem with this crap is that it runs Windows developed in India. More crap which I will end up supporting but never using myself.

If you actually owned any stock in AAPL, you will say otherwise. ;):D

Yes, a lot of people here own AAPL, including me. I know that Apple is sometimes sneaky and scammy (I know, not a real word) with their stuff. They're very good at getting people to spend a lot of money on their stuff, which is why they are a strong company. However, I personally love the Macs from 2006-2009 and use them. Mac OS kills Windows and Linux.

You've heard of AIX, HP-UX and Linux, right?

don't be sorry, i'm the one who feels sorry for your pathetic self.

while you may love your iPad (i know i love mine) and your Macbook, your iMac, your Mac Mini, and your beloved Pink Nano...life...as in "real life" runs on windows. things that you depend on every day run on windows. every time you are flying in the skies, ground control is using microsoft products to ensure that you have a safe and uneventful flight. if you went into a hospital emergency room and were unconscious, your medical records would accessed via a windows-based system. the traffic light systems that you depend on to be "Green" in one direction and "Red" in the perpendicular direction, are run and monitored on windows based systems. your life depends on Microsoft and their products whether you like it or not. so instead of pretending like you F''ing know everything there is to know and that Apple is supreme, take a step back and realize there is more in the tech industry than consumer toys

think outside of the box, or evaporate yourself from these forums

They've been trying for a decade so far. And their latest attempt with Windows-RT isn't compatible with any old software. I have no idea how they can convince developers to switch from Windows 7 to 8/RT.

Remember, Symbian had a huge lead in phone marketshare and that is all but completely gone because of iOS and Android. I doubt Windows will follow the same path because Nokia has proven to be remarkably adept and destroying themselves. Still, this is a new game and Microsoft isn't guaranteed a victory here just like how iBM wasn't guaranteed a victory with the personal computer revolution.

Why would it? That's like waiting to see if the LTE iPad or retnia Mac will cost the same as base models.

Apple invented charging more for useful features, steering buyers to shell out the max.

Maybe, they will offer it as an upgrade? Maybe, they have it working on both. But, because as you say, they want you to purchase the higher one, so initially it's only available on the intel one. If demand is high enough, and to compete in the tablet market, they may offer it to both? At this point, very few know what their plans are; less know what the next months bring and how they will affect change. We'll have to wait and see...

True. Zune HD owners will buy anything with a Microsoft logo on it. Crazy.

I didn't know there were Microsoft fans. Surely there is not a single person who likes all of their products! I know people who hate Macs and iPods and think Microsoft makes better stuff, but they at least hate IE and/or Bing.

You have the typical PC mentality. You don't want to pay for anything! You don't want another device such as an ATV, you don't want to buy accessories. Hell, you want everything including the kitchen sink in a tablet. And also 60 days stand-by time and 2 days straight power use battery use.

It's never gonna work for you - apple products - so just stick with the pc junk.

With Windows 8 will this need virus protection?

I like the keypad idea but wonder just how it feels to type on such a thin keypad with probably little tactile feel to the keys.
We have a bluetooth keyboard for our iPad and it works beautifully, and feels the same as any Apple laptop to use; no need for us to change.

I used Windows 98 on my mom's Sony VAIO until I got my iMac G5. My dad got a tower with Vista (he knows nothing about Windows), and my school also used it for 3 years.

I'm not saying that Windows users are dumb compared to Mac users. I know that there are a lot of Mac users who don't really know anything about computers and get a Mac because they can't deal with Windows. I was just saying that the fact that so many people went out and bought Vista shows how few people really know anything about computers. Anyone at my school will say right away never to get Vista.

Speaking of that, how does everyone know that I'm in high school? I thought I only mentioned it a couple of times, not that I care.

I didn't have problems with Vista.

The BT keyboard may be excellent at the desk but not when you're moving your iPad around. I can't imagine carrying a ridged BT keyboard in my backpack.

Hey, Bing isn't that bad (personally use DuckDuckGo). You remember the Zune guy (with the tattoo)?
