CalDAV and CardDAV in Outlook only works if you install this plug-in: https://caldavsynchronizer.org/

Of course I doubt this plug-in will work in the future PWA based versions of Outlook.

If you want native CalDAV and CardDAV support in a feature rich email client (one I find better then Outlook), I suggest eM Client (https://www.emclient.com/)
Thanks although having downloaded caldavsynchronizer it looks like it only works with Outlook for windows?

Just installed. I love it more than the default Mail app. I don’t have to have a Gmail tab open at all times now. It’s quite a comfy UI too with lots of accessibility options at the start of how you want your mail read. I got it set to read on the right since that’s how I got it at work

Truth be told I like the UI of the Mac version more than the Windows one since the Ribbon isn't taking up so much unnecessary space in the inbox.
Could you please share a screenshot of Outlook>About? Just wanted to see what the they are saying about License and Activation.

There is none. It's 100% free now just like the Windows version is. They're also adding menu bar functionality too and widgets.
The *real* Outlook for Windows isn't free though. I think they have a free version now that's basically a website wrapper, but there's still the full desktop application which you have to pay for. The "there is none" part is something I have a really hard time believing coming from Microsoft. There might not be a catch right now, but it'll come somewhere in the near future.

On exactly which version and which O/S version please? I'm tempted to try it.
Today my new Macbook Air M2 :) with Ventura 13.2.1 and Outlook for Mac 16.70

Until last week same Outlook for Mac from my MBP Late 2013 on Big Sur. Works great.

BTW, legacy version. I have a lot of old emails "on my desktop" and they do not work very well with "new outlook for mac" view (accessible via the Microsoft developer version). Had to go back to legacy and still going strong. Perfect, actually.

I would imagine that it's free as MS is likely to launch lots of Microsoft 365 AI/ML functionality for email soon and they'd like you to use Outlook app on iOS and the Mac to benefit from this (subscription $).

(I imagine that they'll launch the new Outlook PWA app to all users on Windows 10/11 at the same time).

It's not a bad application, though as a consumer, I think it only makes sense if you're using hotmail.com or outlook.com, as the spam, phishing and scheduled delivery functionality hooks directly into those cloud mail services.

As to why you'd use this with iCloud mail or Gmail (or quite frankly, any other email service) would be a mystery.

The custom UI elements that they've done makes it seem slightly slower compared to Mail.app on my machine - as well as making Outlook absolutely feel like a port from another OS (arguably it could've been made more Mac like and still looked like part of Microsoft 365).

It also does the dubious job of making Mail seem like a great native and speedy Mac app (when arguably, it isn't).

All in all, for something so ubiquitous it makes me think that native macOS email clients are not exactly in a great state (and no, I don't want to try one of the smaller 3rd party apps that download your email to their servers to work their magic).

Did they improve exchange integration? IIRC outlook on mac used a web connector for exchange that wasn't on par with the windows version while iOS uses EAS. I can't imagine this is still the case but maybe?

More HTML-ization effort by Microsoft to turn Outlook in to a progressive web app. This is a preview of what will be coming to Windows. Microsoft mentioned a couple years ago they plan to unify the Mac, iPad, Windows, and website versions of Outlook in an app similar to what they did with Teams.

I haven't used an email program on my computer for years. If I use Outlook for my multiple email providers that invariably overtime will mean many files, some with attachments, will it start taking up storage space on my Mac or is everything kept in the cloud?
It will take space on your Mac generally. Attachments are base64 encoded in the message itself, so no way to separate those.

You can tell Outlook to download headers only in its settings. You can’t use Outlook offline if you turn that on.

Does it support iCloud Calendar and Contacts properly or does it still require the usual Microsoft workarounds? Personally I love having both email and calendars in one window and I find there are things about Mail and Calendar that are less than stellar and I have tried other paid apps and they aren't better enough to warranty paying and come with their own issues. Strangely almost every friend of mine that is a Mac user and that would be all 3 of my friends, uses Outlook and loves it but none of them use iCloud for their calendars.

Thoughts ?

my outlook and Microsoft account was no more since December 30, 2022
I popped champagne that day!

this outlook does seem nice, but why?
does that have "hide my email address", yet?

So very true. No wonder it takes them 2 weeks to respond to my email (via GMail). But only 2 seconds when I text them.
Is Google still cool? I thought that ended in 2009 or so!

But like you, I am - sadly - pretty old now, so I don't know either way 😥

I used to use Entourage way back in the day, loved Project Center. Once a project/job was completed, I could export that project to a single file and keep it with the rest of the project files, so all my emails, notes, etc would be neatly stored on my archive disc if I ever needed to reference them again.

MS says that the new Mac OS Outlook will be a native app, not a PWA

My work email is O365 and I love the Viva features.

That said, I don’t know if I want my personal email being used to train Viva. I’ll definitely read the privacy policy for “free” Outlook before I move away from Apple Mail.

Have been using it with M365 since about half a year - application has potential. Some rough edges still …

Does it use the system Calendar and Contacts, or does it use its own? Nothing in the press info clarifies that. Ditto on the "different From addresses" question as well.
Well it can use iCloud, but be aware there are slight incompatibilities in the data model for contacts and calendar items, that can cause trouble. If you are Apple only, better stay with the Mac Apps.

Btw - currently it doesn‘t support Apple Mail‘s „own domain“ functionality.
It could easily, but Microsoft has restricted the configurability to be more „Apple like“

Awesome, now add Exchange on Premise support for the Mac version and it might actually be useable for business purposes. Two years+ ago they said it's coming soon and pointed everyone who needs it to older versions of Outlook.
Well we finally moved to M365 - it is actually worth it.
Currently in Exchange Hybrid mode, but happy to shutdown our on premise server anytime.

AFAIK Apple Mail does not have proper snoozing - one that is temporarily moving the mail from inbox to the snoozed folder.

I use the "inbox zero" method - everything needs to be snoozed or archived, I don't want any emails in my inbox unless they are very important and require some action soon.
