When is Microsoft going to release Word for the iPad?

It's been years now that the iPad has been a hit, but Ballmer won't support it?

MS could have been raking in the big bucks instead of taking a $900 million write off for the failure of Surface 1.

damn it i would like to own the pro version but for some reason Microsoft has the most idiotic/retarded/dumb sales management in the whole western hemisphere. I dont know what they actually do, but im guessing that they just spin the globe 10 times and on whichever 10 countries their finger stops, those will be the country that they will sell their product in. So yeah, even if somebody wants to buy it, they really cant unless they order it from ebay and then cut their veins when they need a warranty repair.

I truly, honestly, can't possibly see a reason why anyone would want a surface Pro over a MBA...even if one were to exclusively use Windows 8...as a wild saturday night activity, I installed windows 8 on my MBA and it ran extremely well with a reasonably high nova bench score at 550. The trackpad scrolling allows navigation via gestures, much like a touch screen would, without turning the screen into a layer of smudgy prints. Ironic that Microsoft's best product to run their OS is a Mac rather than Microsoft's own computer.

Nuts. The pro weighs a pound less, has a 1080p screen and wacom.

The Surface Pro, on the other hand, is just half a laptop, it just "sort of" does everything what a laptop does, it's not that portable, but it's not that powerful either.

It's got nearly the exact same hardware inside it as the Macbook Air. There's no sort of about it. It can do everything a traditional laptop can do.

My only problem with the Pro now that they've made great strides in fixing the battery life situation, is that it's still too reliant on the desktop to do its thing. For the tablet form factor, it needs a proper, fully fleshed out touch based UI environment to get the most out of it. You don't have to sacrifice comfort for functionality, but for the moment at least, you have to do just that with the Pro.

The only Surface I've ever seen, and actually saw someone using, was the one my friend got when he attended the Microsoft Developers conference where they were giving both the Surface and the phone away. The only time he uses it is when Microsoft comes out with another stupid commercial bashing Apple so he can needle me. Of course it doesn't work on me because I know that everyone can choose what they want, I've made my choice, and I've been very VERY happy with Apple products. :apple:

The MacBook Air integrates the keyboard, screen and "stand" in a single, sturdy device that you can use on your lap, not just on a table. It has far better battery life and is otherwise 100% a laptop. The Surface Pro, on the other hand, is just half a laptop, it just "sort of" does everything what a laptop does, it's not that portable, but it's not that powerful either.

Not as powerful? It is equal or better in every spec category to the MBA except potentially battery life.

Not as portable? It's smaller and lighter than the MBA.

Anyway, looks good to me, I'll be buying the 256GB pro.

What about this release makes Microsoft think it will sell better than the previous one? I'm genuinely curious.

These are not really Surface tablets at all. Underneath, they are really refurbished iPads, and then given the Surface paint job.

Remember a couple weeks ago when Microsoft announced they would welcome people trading in their used iPads?

Clearly, though, the light-up apple on the back means you're wrong and should thusly give up on the Surface Pro.

On a more real note, the power keyboard does intrigue me.

Half hearted windows for $499?
$899 for a full on Windows tablet!? $899? You can't make your device "market related pricing" without actually having it prove itself! Apple has a credible track record hence their pricing.

Failure in the second degree!

That's not a fair statement, Windows XP and 7 are fantastic.

Office is STILL the standard in real productivity software.

I am not a fan of Microsoft but to say their software is not worth anything is simply being a blind fanboy

Windows XP was not fantastic, the security on it was/is terrible. 7 is fine. As far as Office is concerned, it's still the "standard" but it's a lot less relevant than it used to be. Office productivity in the cloud is changing the game a lot and quickly for that matter. If Office was so important still most likely MS wouldn't be throwing it in with their Surface tablets. When a company throws in everything they used to charge a lot for it boils down to two things, relevancy and importance is dropping rapidly.

1 month wait for delivery? What are they thinking? On the other hand, this is classic Microsoft.

Can you imagine if, god forbid, Apple did this?! Thankfully the 5s delivery dates are just a joke, they're actually on next day delivery.

You people. I like Apple products and all, but you support the company in the same way someone might support a family member. It's intense.

LOL, another failure. Steve Balmer and his folks who price this product need to be fired with immediate effect. They over priced it last year and they're doing it again this year. What a silly group of MBAs over at Redmond.

Same here. I'm also glad they finally put out that Arc Touch mouse with BT. The original Arc Touch was the best portable mouse I've ever used. Wedge mouse is a crappy design in comparison

I don't understand why it isn't selling well. Most people use there tablets for netflix email and browsing which it does well and it comes with a full office suite. I'm considering ditching my iPad mini for a surface rt because it be great for school. Not to mention it has moist of the top apps we want

2 answers for your question. Windows is becoming less relevant and people are sick of Windows and Microsoft's monopoly. People prefer alternatives and today's market isn't so highly dependent on MS products which is a great thing for the consumer and the business world.

I work full time as an artist and I would love a full OSX tablet with pen input like the Surface Pro. I'm half tempted to pick one up to try out.

Let's hope the new keyboard is as nice to use as their wedge keyboard. I feel like the TypeCover is a bit of a waste because the keys aren't as good. I can't type as well on it as I can on the wedge.
