Yes, I'm in the same boat as you. At present I have my photos backed up to my smugmug account but would love a second option. I'd prefer apple but they are too tight to offer good deals like this so maybe I'll give MS a try.

I just switched to iDrive (who also do iDriveSync but iDrive is cheaper and virtually the same). None of the strange "your data is mine" policies of MS and just as cheap.

The only other problem is of course it takes ages to upload 150gb of photo and video but that is going to happen whoever you choose.

I really don't know what you mean by 'just as cheap'. It's nothing like it! With MS you get 5 x 1Tb for about £50 per year, and that also includes 5 Office licences plus iPad apps.

Will all office 365 subscribers world wide be getting the 1tb upgrade? When will it start showing up? I'm in canada and it says I've got 30GB.

As you can see from a few posts up, the upgrade will be done by August 14.

I am a paid subscriber of OneDrive & Dropbox and the problem I have with OneDrive is speed. It's just so damn slow!

As an example, I uploaded around 1GB of mixed files on Dropbox yesterday and OneDrive took 70 times as long to upload the same data, this is not a one-off, it's always vastly inferior compared to Dropbox. Maybe Microsoft use data centres in Europe that are just complete crap, I don't know. It'd be interesting to hear if North American users have to put up with awful performance with OneDrive uploads & downloads like we do in Europe.

If you don't want your files to be scanned by anybody, don't put them online. All companies comply with the law of the land, don't be fooled into thinking otherwise.

Edit: Not that the USA law would affect you anyway. Microsoft is fighting against email from another country being able to be accessed by the NSA. Why do you think they wouldn't fight for other files as well.

Yeah, well, not that the USA law would be reasonable, nor fit their own constitution, ... See all the Snowden leaks, and FISA court approvals, ... And of course all the US spying affects me, my emails, SMS, ... And yes, unfortunately most customers, clients send me data, contracts etc. unencrypted via email and such, ...

Microsoft even searched the files themselves, if they see fit, e.g. see that Windows leaker, ...

And yes, I won't store my data in some external datacenter, ... why should I?

----------

Last I checked, the BND wasn't any better. If you don't want your files to be read by government agencies, print them out, put them in your drawer and wipe your hard drive.

That may be, but you belong to a very small minority. Most people depend on MS Office products for their work.

Sure, if you ask me they could close all this money wasting spy services, ... better invest that in development aid and greener energy and such, ... make the world a better place for all of us.

Why would I print my secret files? I better keep them encrypted on a hidden storage device, ... certainly not sending them to third party companies, ... or printed them out in plaintext, ... ?!?

they are all "nsa data centers" - it doesn't matter if you're using services from microsoft, google, apple, facebook, dropbox or any other us-american company.

I didn't say it was constitutional, nor did I say it was right. I just said it was happening.
