Not sure what you mean. I just text anybody I want and I never think about what kind of phone they have.
Again, that only works in the US....for most other markets SMS stopped being a viable option long time ago.....Carriers actually charged per message, and even if they tried to change that, people had moved away from that.

Looks like they already did. Have you seen the new Teams logo in Windows 11?

I don’t think Apple wants to push iMessage utilization. I think iMessage and all their free software exists mainly as a lure to sell their hardware, with a few exceptions such as when sharing software helps to make money off of services (iTunes, Apple Music).

I wish there was an iMessage on Windows...
Would save me from having to pick up my phone to reply to messages while I'm doing something on my PC
Apple hopes this annoyance will eventually help to convince you to buy a Mac lol.

MS is bloatware garbage. Don’t fall for it Timmy

macOS requires 4GB of RAM and at least 35.5GB of storage space vs 1GB-2GB of RAM and up to 20GB of storage space for Windows

General Requirements
OS X 10.9 or later
4GB of memory
35.5GB available storage on macOS Sierra or later*

* If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, macOS Big Sur requires 35.5GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, macOS Big Sur requires up to 44.5GB of available storage.

Here's what it takes to upgrade to Windows 10 on your PC or tablet:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 20 GB for 64-bit OS

What’s app and other platforms will try to monetize the messaging platforms with advertising, and probably will have to collect user data. As Apple has no intention as of now to do that, it won’t benefit Apple in any way. Apple’s way of monetizing is that they provide various services in the platform and hope users will choose their devices for the services(or the quality/execution of the services). For this reason, it will be detrimental for Apple’s business to bring iMessage to other platforms. And forcing Apple to do it, will mean that they will be forced to monetize it by collecting user data. Unfortunately, some policy makers who cry monopoly, don’t have the sense to see this. They are trying to force the one profitable company that does not want to collect user data, into becoming another privacy invader. They do this out of fear, that this company that hold’s a tiny market share in every market it’s in, will somehow become a monopoly.

That is precisely correct. Income statements are an easy thing to see with a publicly traded company. If you look at their statements and see advertising as their big revenue, it is almost certain that they are collecting as much data as absolutely possible.
The more data(a.k.a. privacy information) they can collect about you, the better the sales metrics are, the better their income from advertisers.

Hrmm, I'm in the US but my experience is that iMessage is an LARGE driver of people to iOS and iPhones. The green vs blue bubble situation is very real.

People using WhatApp.... I must say I've never downloaded it. A Facebook owned company, I think people who use it are absolutely nuts. I don't trust Facebook with..... anything.

But more on point. I'd love to have iMessage on my Windows PCs but I give it about a snowballs chance in Hell of it ever happening.

Yeah, and the same applies to macOS. They're PC operating systems, so you can run whatever you want on them.

Part of me prefers brutal Ballmer over this pretend-nice CEO. But I get it, it's not 2003 anymore.
Ballmer was an imbecile. The current CEO is a lot sharper and knows what he’s doing. I think he’s doing well at Microsoft. They’ve made some big changes that I never thought I’d see.

Good luck actually running Windows 10 in an enjoyable fashion with minspec hardware.

Windows 11 is going to a more realistic "64GB of space required" requirement, as well as 4GB of RAM.

As much as I would love to have iMessage on Windows (and Android), I also can see why Apple likes to keep it locked down and drive sales of iPhones. However, I wonder if Apple could figure out a compromise - for example, suppose Apple ported iMessage to Windows and/or Android, but it only worked if you have your iMessages set to back up and sync via iCloud. In other words, you have to have another Apple device first and then on Windows or Android, you would basically be syncing up with your already stored messages. Otherwise, it would not work for someone who does not have an Apple device already.

That would actually benefit Apple more than Microsoft if they want to push iMessage utilization. Outside of the US no one uses it, and prefer to use Whatsapp or other platforms instead of having to guess what kind of phone or computer your recipient has.
Do Americans not guess or does it work differently in the colonies? I thought iMessage was a messaging app that automatically converted messages to SMS/MMS when the recipient wasn't on iOS.

Except there are options apple could incorporate into their iMessage that would fix the flaw that is SMS but keep licking the apple boot...
What do you mean? He said that iMessage already solves the sms security issue.

Last I tried Apple can't get iCloud to work reliably on Windows.

It only "solves" it imessage to imessage. It still relies on SMS fall back (the security they claimed). Adding RCS would eliminate the SMS security problems no matter who they are messaging (especially since android already incorporates this and would drive RCS adoption even higher once apple incorporated it as well).

you are completely wrong. all employees of our company (EU) have iphones, so standard communication is iMessage, our IT use Threma. On the private side i use mostly iMessage over whatsup. Group chats are easy peasy with iMessage even with Android Users

I like it being iOS only. That why it’s easy for me to tell who to not be friends with. Rather than building a friendship and finding out later

Apple doesn’t want to push iMessage utilization, they want to push the purchase of Apple hardware.

iMessage doesn’t make Apple any money… so why would they want to bring a feature to other platforms that would make it easier for potential customers to not buy Apple hardware and stick with their Windows PC’s or Android phones which now have iMessage?

Not saying that I personally want Apple to keep iMessage walled off from other platforms, it would have been great for me when I was going through my Android phase, but bringing it to other platforms makes no logical business sense.

It’s weird when Apple shows loads of friends iMessage-big each other in their marketing, because here in the UK, people mostly use WhatsApp, as android is about 50% (EDIT typo from 60 to 5 of the market.

I doubt Apple will ever port iMessage to non-Apple platforms, but that means it’ll only ever be used meaningfully in the USA (where I understand that iPhone has a significantly higher market share then android). So… 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: I don’t like WhatsApp at all btw.

It would be great for consumers...and a much better compromise to force onto apple than the ridiculous "default app" idea lawmakers are pushing for.

I don't think iMessages alone would make me consider going back to windows but one big reason I stay with Mac is it easily connects with all the other Apple products I own and I message on my Mac more than on my iPhone/iPad.
Is that what they think? That people will want to use a windows machine because it has iMessage? They think iMessage is the only think keeping people from making the switch
