What, they gave someone a patent on displaying stuff to buy on a browser. WTF?

****, I gonna patent breathing and then start charging everybody a licensing fee.

 Wow way to Microsoft, make us proud! /end sarcasm

How did he get those patents...it's seriously like patenting the human ability to walk.

To be fair to Microsoft. Paul Allen has nothing to do with MS anymore. He does own a lot of shares but doesn't do anything with MS.

This is NOT Microsoft suing anybody. It's Paul Allen.

and it's not as weird as Zuckerberg trying to Trademark "Face".

Or suing a company for using the word "book" in the name.

Lol

I read a pile of comments here

and then read through these comments... big LOL at the way the tone changes when a different company is involved...

Ya, Facebook...but not the words themselves.

What!!!!!

Know listen Paul Allen, lets go way back here. That OS you guy's call Windows, guess who really came out with that idea :apple: and if any one with some common sense compare Windows 7 VS Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, should come out with his or hers own conclusion, why going after Apple is NOT a good idea.
The last thing you guy's want to do is get MR Steve

Guys I just patented Every element known to man so u arecall **** out of luck, I want my money within 24 hrs or I will sue u all in federal court.

But in all seriousness those inventions are so vague it's not even funny

You idiots need to blame the people enabling this sort of patenting. If you could patent something general and vague and get millions in royalties off of it, don't tell me you wouldn't do it.

And lol at TheFro's post. Pretty funny reading through that thread.

Hmmm, browsed them, don't see much of a difference.

But, good luck to all parties involved :D

For shame. I can understand going after Apple/Google/eBay, but Office Depot/Staples? That's just a low blow in my opinion. :(

Is AOL still even in business?

I have a patent for douchebaggery, which Paul Allen is clearly violating. See you in court!

His other patent

He has another patent (not involved in this case):

United States Patent No. 4,666,3xa issued for: "Uttering of the sound 'Muhuhuhahaha'."

It should be the other way around.

Too bad Microsoft already patented the way to earn money by stealing other people's work.

From multibillionaire captain of industry to common patent troll. Sad.

Remember what Teddy Roosevelt said about "captains of industry" before he started enforcing the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.

My take is his portfolio has dipped too much with the current market performance. Thus, he is trying to get some licensing fees out of these suits to balance it out.

Steve Ballmer has plenty of prior art that could be used to invalidate your patent.

I agree with you - the patent system is broken, and that's the real problem here. A problem, though, is that lots of people see this as a black-or-white issue when I think there needs to be shades of gray. Most people who complain loudly about the patent system just seem interested in having it abolished completely. I think patents serve an important purpose; it's just that the current system/laws rewards people who want to game it.

I can feel his patent troll eyes piercing my soul... :(
