Wow.... I'm speechless... :(

Does Android automatically add the annoying Wirelessly posted... tag line? Can't tell you how annoying that is.

United States Patent No. 6,757,682 issued for an invention entitled "Alerting Users to Items of Current Interest."
So is he claiming to have invented spam?

Send Paul Allen and his lawyers a bunch of spam, ****** links and Rickroll videos links and see how he likes them.

- "Browser for Use in Navigating a Body of Information, With Particular Application to Browsing Information Represented By Audiovisual Data."
- "Attention Manager for Occupying the Peripheral Attention of a Person in the Vicinity of a Display Device."
- "Attention Manager for Occupying the Peripheral Attention of a Person in the Vicinity of a Display Device."
- "Alerting Users to Items of Current Interest."

Wow, these seem pretty generic and common...wonder why they're not suing everyone or are they trying to stifle their main competitors?

so its not about the developers?

Is Charter out of bankruptcy

The guy has no clue about business, oddly enough. He bought Tech TV and then massively overspent, and then pulled the plug. He bought the tiny cable company, Charter, and pounded it into bankruptcy.

Maybe he needs the money to run for governor of California.

The problem is, there are far too many idiot leaders in society.

So?

As if this will have an effect on any Apple's plans.

The only reason it's on the first page is because it's Paul whats-his-name doing it.

Next!

Yeah, patents have become so stupid, they issue them for anything. I should try to patent "Breathing" or "Walking".

10 bucks says he wants his damned talking paperclip back from MS Office.

Hahahaha, sorry have $5 so i can breathe, and ****ing hell i hate that damn PaperClip so much - refer to Family Guy Lois Kills Stewie episode ;) and omg dumbass retard patents like this shouldn't exist.... strangleholds **** the economy up

How you can even get a patent on things like this is ridiculous in itself. These things are so common in every day usability, you'd have to sue the entire world. It's like placing a patent on a object which you can write on...

Gates, Mundie, Flake and others are listed as inventors on patent applications filed by Intellectual Ventures affiliate Searete LLC, covering concepts such as determining behavioral influences on Internet users by gauging their interaction with others.

So does Microsoft have partial ownership of these patents? Or are they licensing these from Paul Allen's company?

If they have partial ownership, this lawsuit involves Microsoft (contrary to arguments from some in this thread).

If they are licensing these patents from Allen, that would be an interesting fact to add to the debate.

If they do not have partial ownership, nor have licensing agreements with Allen's firm, this lawsuit should involve Microsoft. And since it doesn't, why not?

Let's reopen the investigation of unfair business practices by Microsoft

Seems simple enough.
Paul wants to play. Let's play.

People !!

Listen very closely.

This is NOT Microsoft suing. Ok ? It is NOT Microsoft suing.

It is Paul Allen's IP Company. It has nothing to do with Microsoft.

PLEASE stop the MS bashing. They have nothing to do with this.

Yeah, right... But we all love a good M$ bashing every once in a while, don't we? They've earned it for life :D

patents should be stopped. this is getting even more ridicolous!

i can understand that someone wants to protect his idea that really is unique. but it should have a certain basis and substance. imagine someone had a patent for wheels and only one company was able to produce wheels. i don't think that society would have come far. patents are about making money. sad, sad!

Don't think the patent office existed in caveman days.:p
