The future is actually AR, seriously, soon the size of your phone or tablet will be irrelevant.Like VR was the future. Like 3D displays were the future etc etc......
Pretty sure Microsoft have access to a few apps in the Windows world.

You sound like your assuming Microsoft are incapable of out innovating Apple. The Surface program, more specifically the Surface Book 2 shows how far Microsoft have come with hardware. Yes we all know about the failures, like Windows mobile etc, but I think Microsoft have learnt from this are have a strong hardware plan for their future.Look the folding and bendy plastic display screens are not new tech - Sony from 2009 and it may be even earlier examples,
Bringing it to market seems to be a whole other ball game and who can do that and win?
+ Why replicate the shortcoming or practical impediments of old-world bound media aka, books!
It actually make no sense of than the folding to save space, but is that enough of a sell, since some screen tech was designed to roll up so you could have it in a pen if you want, a digital scroll!
If anything what would be great and afaict - APPLE are best placed to do something like this, having more than one iOS device work in tandem with another... designed a new custom hinge-connector system (use the triple dot connector) and you have a dual screen book like offering, one side can be a keyboard when you need it.
Two iPad pros working as one or with your macOS system. You could build out a new control desk in a sound studio. Keep adding iPad Pros etc. etc.
I think this might be the Apple kind of other modular with might seen soon. I hope so.
It opens up bigger potential and applications in the real world. When the screen have less or no bezels at all, build your own video touch wall, room, floor... limited only by how deep your pockets are.
See you in 10 yrs to see if this holds true. The future is actually AR, seriously, soon the size of your phone or tablet will be irrelevant.

While Apple have big numbers coming from a massive loyal fanbase the tide might turn as the competition push ahead with new ideas and follow through. Apple would rather milk the cash cow while holding thousands of patents.

not really, as it goes back to the whole reason why the iPad can be finger operated whilst windows can't, making it reliant on a stylus to use which is simply a pain. Watching someone operate Windows by finger is quite funny and the experience is simply not as fluid as ios. The same would happen if MacOS was on an iPad too.
Anyway, the main reason I am posting is that I am way more excited to see this Microsoft device than the next iPhone. News of 10% increase in speed and a new charger adapter doesnt really interest me at all. The iPhone has now peaked in my view and needs some innovation to move forward. A phone to tablet concept really interests me, especially if it has stylus support.
If MS knock this out the park, I will be done with Apple for all my professional needs, as at present they are getting very wobbly indeed on the tightrope. Just a MacBook at home will probably do it for me, to stay in the loop.
Really? The product is currently dead according to news reports. Now run out and get that 10% faster iPhone and be happy.
The replies in this thread are so predictable. I guess most are happy with innovation meaning - removal of ports, milking older tech for years, animojis, watch bands, etc.. I think its great that some companies are willing to push the envelope and think outside the rounded rectangle which Apple so proudly defends at all cost.
I really do wish MS could get things together, This Duopoly stinks a bit and MS isn't all that incapable at good UI and Hardware.
However I think a basic phone/mobile device is FIRST port of call! NOT some BS dual screen half and half, convertible shill capable of neither running mobile apps correctly or desktop apps sufficiently. Shoot me down if I'm wrong.
The surface book for example could be an amazing laptop but is made a much worse laptop and tablet by trying to be both, an unbalanced screen with wobble, restrictive hinge and overpriced mechanism with a weird gap/tilt that makes it look super derpy to boot!
MS, please make a phone with dual boot or options for android and windows. Make it great with hardware etc and please don't brand it MS and you'll be off! This dual screen will be a waste of money on R&D with almost no sales I guarantee. At least if you do a mobile then you can progress forward to this device with market share. The reason Nokia failed was it's design wasn't up to it and you forced a borked mobile version of windows with zero app developer support. Nokia had a great name but only with old style phones and had a hard time using plastic that felt cheap.
See you! But when we meet I will put an AR paper bag in your face. You sound like your assuming Microsoft are incapable of out innovating Apple. Wow tanta 10 years ago! What happened to Sony! They let LG and Samsung take the market!Look the folding and bendy plastic display screens are not new tech - Sony from 2009 and it may be even earlier examples,

I'll counter your paper with some scissors.
