I'm having the same issue! Yesterday I got the same error message and tried to change my Live ID (trusting that my contacts wouldn't have to add me again).

It's been almost 24 hours now and all my contacts are still ofline. Anyone got any luck yet? This is *so* frustrating!

But are you contacts still offline?

It is at times like these that I wish there was a standard for IM...

I have to use Adium because I have contacts on MSN, ICQ and AIM.

Not to mention that Adium doesn't support video from either MSN or AIM, with people using MSN that keep asking me "why don't you use MSN Messenger" and AIM people asking me "why don't you use iChat".

I'm giving up - making a new Hotmail account, and use that. That way they can't delete it. I hate using the hotmail prefix. but thats the internet. i wish the world used AIM at times like theeeeeese. :(

No luck here. Changed mine last night to gmail. I have one contact that has transfered - all the rest are showing as offline.

Well, I guess it's just a matter of time. Most probably there's some serious slowness going on those servers...

Just wait a couple of hours. Mine took almost 30 hours to update.

changed my @mac to a @hotmail.com last night around 5pm its been over 24 hours and i dont even hve any contacts on my new account.

Well my gmail address worked perfectly last night and this morning, then when I tried to logon this afternoon all my contacts were showing but all as offline - I knew many were online as I have them in AIM too.

Reading a bit more into it I changed my email address back to my .mac one, it accepted it and told me to wait an hour (standard stuff) but I opened Adium, changed the email address back and it worked instantly. Not sure for how long, but for now things are back as they were before we were told to change them!

I am affected by this issue but I have no idea what I should do about it... I seem to have lost all my contacts after changing my ID:mad:

It *seems* to be working again with my mac.com address - I'm not sure whether it would have been OK had I just done nothing, or if setting up a new Live account with the address (as I ended up doing last night) made a difference. Fingers crossed it doesn't f*** up again...

Oh my... that means I changed my Live ID for nothing?! I could just have waited and keep my mac.com ID?

I have had a reply from Microsoft support re: nothing working.

The summary is "wait another 24hrs until the work" if that doesn't solve your problem please don't reply to this message.

I have also had a reply to my request for information on why I had to change my ID in the first place. That reply was a bit more sketchy.

"we had a short maintenance on the servers which caused this. Based on our tests, you may be able to sign into MSN Messenger at this time and will not be prompted to change your ID anymore. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you."

My technical knowledge is lacking by what kind of maintenance generates messages & is specific to a particular domain name. Why not all 3rd part hotmail accounts?

I had already changed my Live ID to something other than the mac.com address when I got an email from MSN Support.

It basically says there were issues with their serves andmac.com address on Live accounts are now working properly.

I changed my Live ID *back* to my mac.com email and I can assure you everything si working fine.

:)
