Genuine question, why would anyone want Microsoft Edge on their Mac other than for testing purposes?
I want to use safari but the lack of windows support means it can’t be a primary browser on any platform since it can’t sync them all.

Edge is faster and uses less memory than chrome.

Done it for 35 years, since system 7 and Win 3.1 not too bad but was much harder back in the day. There are some apps that are just better on one particular OS than the other so I use both OS's on my desk.

Completely agree. My every-day iMac Pro fires up a Parallels Windows 10 m/c as soon as I login just to run Windows Office & a couple of work apps. Running in coherence it's fantastically useful. Windows 10 just blends into the background and I just have a version of Office I prefer, access to Visio & Project, and some work-specific stuff too.

I truly enjoy Edge now and Microsoft continues to improve it. I use it everywhere now but if Safari was available for other platforms, it would be a hard sell. I can see Edge being a true alternative to those not using Google products like myself.

Surprisingly it's quite a good browser, a better option than chrome, better sync with those many who have a PC. On a Mac Safari is popular but I believe 50-55% so plenty of people not using it.

Almost never pops up in the "apps using significant energy" section, plus better privacy options than Chrome.

As Safari is not an option for those of us who use multiple platforms and want sync enabled, Edge is actually a quite good choice right now.

I use it because I also have a Windows machine, and I find the bookmark syncing to work really well across both.

I use it because I like to have a completely separate browser for work accounts.

I used to use Chrome, but it ran like garbage and I don’t trust Google at all. I also don’t like Firefox (even though it was my browser of choice at one time).

Because Edge runs on all platforms and not everything I own is from Apple. Besides, it's a truly excellent browser.
Thanks all, I'm a Safari user and sometimes use Chrome if Safari gives me difficulties for whatever reason. I might try Edge as I know Chrome is a resource hog.

Edge is a great browser and these sound like solid additions. Installing and restarting Edge now!

I've heard Edge is best for streaming Netflix or Amazon prime. I am a bit weary of installing a Microsoft browser on my Mac although I do use Office 365.

The "Sleeping tabs" feature aims to improve performance by releasing system resources for inactive or backgrounded tabs. The feature is optional and can be enabled in the browser settings menu.
This is something I really wish they’d add to Safari. Heck, I’d like a per-tab button on the browser’s toolbar, to suspend that tab. And a preference setting for whether tabs started in the background start suspended. i frequently have a lot of tabs open that I want to keep open for context (research for various projects and such), that I absolutely do not want sucking up processor cycles. Safari would be much more efficient with such a feature.

My Mac performance is horrible with all these tabs open in Safari, which should be using no CPU until requested to the foreground. Where is the Safari sleeping tabs feature?!

Edge and Brave scroll much more smoothly on my M1 Mac Mini. Safari stutters and I just can't use it. Plenty of people say the same, so don't point fingers at my setup. I recently discovered Brave and in use it is pretty much the same as Edge but better at eliminating trackers and suchlike.

Edge is a great browser. I think people think it's just another IE, but that could not be further from the truth. I use it over Safari because I can sync it with my work PC and my Mac at home.

Interestingly is that almost every comment here are from people who used/use/never used Chrome, and want to sync bookmarks and any other web stuff between their macOS and Windows and Android…
I will never try another browser, one is enough for me, thanks M$ but no. Where is the old M$ that would be developing a web browser and not picking an engine from others? Oh, wait, it is M$!
I only need one, the one that is always synced with my mobile devices and other computers, everywhere I go.

Chrome developers: “ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THIS?!”

Its hard to believe Microsoft is making a come back in the browser world and it says a lot about the team behind especially with that ugly logo. Anyone thinking Edge is a better privacy option over Chrome you are delusional. If you are looking for a Chromium browser you better use Brave but whatever works for you best and happy with.

Sure, but it's still a Chromium-based browser.

We need more browsers that aren't Chromium-based which is why I'm sticking with Firefox.

You are not wrong but Mozilla is not seeing their best days, they are firing their employees, begging for money, trying to censor the internet [1] [2] , and they are not really providing anything really superior product wise except the "We are FOSS, give us your donations". They CEO multiplied her pay.

Sleeping tabs sounds like a good idea. No use having scripts using cycles and I/O to constantly query and update a display that is not visual. Especially when so many people have dozens (or even hundreds) of tabs open all the time.

Who used/use never used Chrome.....and like to sync their stuff. So that's pretty much everyone? You will never try another browser. Ahaha. Other people have different requirements. Who knew.

Also, M$? Really? I feel like I've stumbled into a post from the past.

I tried it out of curiosity and a natural distrust of Google....and now it's my main go-to browser. Nothing particularly wrong with Safari, and if you're completely in the Apple Ecosystem I'm sure it's enough, but the combination of performance on Edge and it being multi-platform (it just works, regardless of what device I pickup....), I've ended up here.

As a quick side-note, you can control which browser links are opened with using apps like Bumpr. It's incredibly useful. Certain stuff I'll want in Edge, some in Chrome, some in Safari.

It's interesting the lack of objectivity to such things tbh. OMG I don't do this and I have no need for this so this product is rubbish etc.

My first Mac was a Power Macintosh 6100/60 which had a Power PC 601 processor as well as a 486DX2 processor card which allowed you to boot into either Mac system 7 or Win 3.1. It was extremely cool back in the day. Now I just use a HP workstation and a few Mini's.

I use it on all my windows and my iMac and my iOS device and even in my Linux laptop and love it
