I still will not bother with the Surafce RT, too limited now the Surface Pro looks perfect.

to be fair I got at least 5 years out of G5, and it wasn't actually rendered useless at the end (I sold it for a nice stack) PPC support carried on for ages, so I don't think that counts really - its not a product that was a year old a massive failure, reduced to sell and then discontinued because it didn't make the company any money!

Aye, good point. Must've hurt, though -- to sink a lot of money into a G5 Quad only for them to go to Intel the year afterwards :(

Why is this this guy still the CEO?

Anyone have a good reason for why he is still CEO after he has had so many failures?

It's both the blessing and curse of Win8. You've got so many more nice options grouped together logically it's actually (at least to me) the fastest, easiest version of Windows to use.

...but MS doesn't tell you about any of them along with all the ways the new features have changed things you're normally used to. Because of that, your first couple of days are spent fumbling about in a UI that doesn't seem to be at all intuitive until you start picking up on everything.

It's no surprise that people who play with Windows 8 for an hour or two absolutely hate it. It's also not surprising that people who stick with it end up liking it (with caveats).

I think you've summed it up very well there :)

MS really needs to take a long, hard look at itself, the devices it wants to target, and where things are heading in the "post-PC" era and think outside of the box.

They are making a mistake in trying to shoe-horn their two flagship products - Windows and Office - onto any device that comes along and it quite clearly isn't working.

If Apple had tried to shoe-horn OS X onto iDevices they would not be the rip-roaring success they have been.

I must say that this is rather interesting.
And with this I mean the gloating in this thread.

There are often comments about Android user visiting this forum expressing their joy when there is bad news for Apple.

But this thread is about Microsoft.
There's not a lot of Windows Phone users visiting this forum gloating about Apple, is there?
Nor do Android users seem to care about the fact that Microsoft is a distant third in smart phones and tablets.

And yet, the comments here are filled with gloating.

I think this says a lot about Apple's current situation.

Classic.

Still overpriced, funny I remember when the RIM CEO stated Apple was not innovative? Really

Let us see how many devices Apple is selling and where RIM lies now?

Always keep thy tongue in thy mouth unless you can prove what you speakith

I would buy a Samsung 10.1 before I even buy and RT or Pro from Microsoft

So when the iPhone 5 S comes out in a few months and outsells the Galaxy S4 you'll be stating that same, that it's not fair to compare them?

I give up.

Apparently he was Bill Gates roommate, one has to wonder what kind of,,, ummm, 'evidence' he holds against bill :D

ay of the three wasn't he kind of protrayed as the cool playboy or something like that in posv?

Don't be surprised, a lot of folks returned RT because it had a lot of performance issues, it wasn't as smooth as they'd thought it'd be.

Surface RT might have a better experience once they get a better hardware. MS rushed RT too soon.

Let's not forget about the fact that it took half of the 32GB to store the OS. So you bought a 32GB device and ended up with 16GB to use.

"Hi, I'm an iPad." "And I'm a Surface. Hey iPad, I have this great feature, it's called multitasking." "I do one thing, and I do it well. People seem to like that. What were your sales like last quarter?" "...Shut up."

Did anyone else catch the unintended irony of the "Mac" character bringing up sales figures in this spoof?

Har!

LOL, the Apple iPad claims another victim! Somewhere Steve Jobs is looking down smiling. :D

I don't think the RT fell victim to the iPad as much as it did to Microsoft's design by committee approach, led by accountants. (See XBox One debacle on required Internet connection which they had to do a 180 on).

The RT was/is under featured & over priced, and only confuses consumers being a Windows product with no real Windows compatibility. Hard have a good product launch facing those head winds. Even at the current price cut the Galaxy Tab 2 looks more compelling to me with just have the storage space.

Those of you gloating over this news and hoping the Surface would fail, do you realize that competition is a good thing for the market?

Only when competition produces something that has any value to consumers. When the "competition" throws out garbage that completely misses the mark on performance, price, usability and design the consumer will ignore it. And at the end of the day they end up just strengthening the position of the entrenched leader.

Name one thing that the "competition" from the Surface RT has done to improve the consumer's experience with iPad?

A lot of Apple fans have never liked microsoft because they feel they stole Apple's whole idea and beat them at their own game (by that I mean pc market share). So when they see Apple finally taking them down a peg, it's a little vindictive. That coupled with the farce of management Microsoft has and how they have been seriously screwing up lately (vista, 8, ballmer as ceo, zune, xbone, need I go on?) is what leads to comments over here. Besides people here can say w/e they want about other oses, it's not like we're finding windows 8 forums and bashing them over there. What we can't make fun of them to eachother? I don't get mad when people flame Apple, only when they do so without anything that backs them up.

since when has Apple lowered any of their prices due to competition?

Let's be clear. Apple and Microsoft at the get-go had very different strategies. Steve/Apple wanted to maintain control and make hardware and software work together. Gates/Microsoft wanted their OS in as many computers and licensed it out.

First/Second mattered - but not as much as their business model.

So, it's all about holding a grudge that's decades old?

On the desktop Apple really hasn't made a dent in Microsoft's dominance.

Among smart phones and tablets, Microsoft isn't the main competition and it never has been. Android is. And that's where the focus should be.

Google is copying what Microsoft did for the desktops, and Apple is once again repeating the mistakes it did when the battle was over the desktop and the main competition was Microsoft.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

lol ok? Because forum members are execs at Apple and us focusing on Microsoft somehow allows android to win?
