The Surface Pro is tempting, especially that the pen input now works on programs like Photoshop or Illustrator. Then again apparently Wacom has their own tablet coming out... of course who knows what OS it will run.

I'm really intrigued by the Wacom tablet, my guess is that it'll be Android based but I'm interested to see in any case.

I think computers are great for some things and tablets are great for others. It just so happens there is some overlap. When I want to use a computer I want to use a fully powered machine. When I just want to watch some TV, send an email or two, read a book, surf the net, use some already built company software made for the iPad etc... then the iPad will more than suffice. Trying to force people back into the old paradigm is probably not the way to go.

The real problem is the limited availability of Surface RT & Surface Pro. People can't walk in to a store and buy one! The only place you can get them is a very few select 'partners' and the Microsoft Store.
That's a lie. There are over 500,000 sitting on the shelves. They are not selling well bottom line.

I am really surprised only 1.5Million have been sold. For that time frame those figures are a complete disaster. Once again Microsoft have badly misread the market and are being almost totally ignored by the consumer because of it. By and large the advertising has been a total embarrassment, I suppose I shouldn't really be surprised it failed but I am surprised it failed this badly.

The Dell Laptop is cheaper than any MSFT tablet by a lot. My friend bought a Dell for $250 and it had a 15" screen. Now why would I spend $500 or a grand on a MSFT product when I am not in the market to spend that kind of dough on a MSFT product.

MSFT needs to figure out how to release a tablet that is cheaper than their desktops so say like $199 is the magic price point. Then it'll sell maybe.

Knew this was going to turn out to be a circle jerk even before I clicked the comments section.

Kind of funny how much more active Microsoft and Google articles are on this site compared to Apple articles.

Also, let us ignore the Qualcomm refreshed Surface RT that is looming and the fact that the Pro did not get a cut in it's price.

Not surprising.

Apple is standing still, failing to innovate, and thus is being over taken by Android.

Google articles are filled with gloating Android fans and iOS fans acting like Baghdad Bob. If iOS fans want to have something to gloat about they have to turn to M$.

Image a high school kid getting his ass kicked by another high school kid and instead of getting even decides to beat up a preschooler...

Yeah, that's geeks, but I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about Greeks. They all love Android.

They dont love anything. Greeks don't have any money. Low value consumers don't have much choice but the low value option.

MS is fundamentally a premium software company. I know some baulk at that, but all of there stuff sells for $50 or more. It's not surprising they suck at the $0.25 to $5 software market. So it's also not surprising that the device they made to address that nickel and dime ecosystem is also not up to it.

But they had to hedge their bets with Arm because Intel is blowing it. The surface pro is an incredible machine but is just to small to take advantage of a 3rd generation i5. It needs haswell.

Separately the 32nm atom chips have been so gimped, and so many netbook users have been so ripped off, that there is a real reluctance by an informed consumer to buy a 32nm atom tablet.

Yet, those are the two options in the market. If they don't gimp the surface pro 2, put in options for a Haswell i3 or i5, and drop the price a little bit so the bill comes in under $1000 ($1000+ is too steep because that's increasingly seen as an non-discretionary amount) - they'll sell millions.

So again, basically the fortunes are going to be dependent on how fast Intel supplies the next gen chips.

We decided to go with these for Students with our new Data Center where I work.
They dropped the Base Line model RT with the better KeyBoard to $250.00 each. Much better deal then the IPAD. Add a keyboard and a way to hold the IPAD up on a desk for the students to use. Then the IPAD doesn't have OSX on it the surface runs windows OS with word ETC ETC not that it matters with the Data Center. But add those extras to the IPAD and the price is crazy and Apple really doesn't want to drop prices that much to schools never mind have a way to run IPADS through the data center you can't virtualize OSX.
Sure the Teachers scream for Apple Products but the Tax Payers and Budgets say No Way to the High Prices.

I guess I'm in the minority here but in addition to my iPad 4/Mini/IP5, I also own a Surface RT and quite like it.

Great build quality, USB support for devices and drives, real-time desktop updates of mail, weather, etc., kickstand, touch keyboard, and intergrated Office suite.

For $349, it would make a great Office/Email/Productivity device with full USB support.

I still prefer my iPad but this device is not without it's advantages. Sadly, app development is understandably way behind Android and iOS.

I'd be checking some background information if I were you. She could be an Italian who's been lying to you all this time.

Tell me this, when she cooks, does she tend to use some various form of noodles, or are most of her dishes olive based? This is important.

I've seen neither, but she has an impressive collection of olive oil types in the kitchen. She likes Thai food if that helps.

Except for the sweaty buffoon part, this could be a reply for anyone asking why Tim Cook is still CEO of Apple. The next iPhone might end up being meh, but Cook will most likely still be CEO, because Apple is making a lot of money...

Ah, but there's a crucial difference: Cook is CEO of a company that is still making great products.

Worst tablet ever.

The RT not selling is probably hurting MS a bit, but they themselves have stated that they never expected the Pro to fly off the shelves in huge numbers. It's more their hobby project, only sold from their website or some MS stores.

Their advertisement does not reflect a hobby. It's clear they wanted to give the iPad a run for its money.

500,000 huh... got a source for that number?
How many source links would u like?

Actually the articles I've read is that most of the company is not happy with the performance that he is doing; and other people at the top have been wanting to get rid of him. There are two problems, he has done a good job of eliminating those who stand up to him, thus no one wants to say anything. And second the only people that can remove him are the board of directors, and he has control of them. Thus no one can unseat him.

The board could easily vote him off, it's happened to many a CEO. He's safe for now, but the vast majority of the company's gigantic profits still come from groundwork laid in the 1990s (the Windows/Office monopoly). His eventual downfall will be a failure to move with the times and successfully compete in the post-PC era.

Their advertisements have been for Windows 8, not Surface. ;)
The last AD featured a Dell.

Just one from Microsoft that includes production, current inventory and sales numbers would be fine.
I'll wish you the best of luck finding it since no such data has ever been released publicly.

Yep it would be quite embarrassing for them to release that info.
