Why should I use this instead of Safari or Chrome?
Like every other app in existence, if you can't think of a reason why you should install it then obviously you shouldn't install it.

Just from this screenshot, I can see that the close widgets are on the wrong side of the tabs...
They're the same as those on Chrome and Firefox. I doubt anyone anywhere complained about them.

I have had this installed for over a week, it doesn't appear to have any defining features that make it better than Chrome and it doesn't have some of the features that Chrome does, which is disappointing given that it is based on the Chrome code base.

Chrome is my browser of choice right now, as an English speaker living in Sweden. The ability to translate pages within the browser automatically from Swedish to English is an absolutely killer feature for me and isn't supported by Safari. I hoped that Edge might include translation backed by Bing Translate, because actually Bing's translation from Swedish to English is actually quite good, no such luck however. Hopefully it will come in a future update.

Safari actually does support extensions that translate web pages as does the chrome based edge. The latter actually supports all extension that work in chrome, you just have to enable third party extensions in the settings.
The only feature that is missing as I can see is the link with a google account, but in my view that is a defect, not a feature :) the only real reason to use this instead of Chrome is if you don't want google to track everything you do on the web

Firefox under the hood on iOS IS Safari. This is the placebo effect on full display.

No way. I no longer have a laptop or an iPad and every day my I am using Firefox on iOS on my iPhone and it’s ten times faster than Safari. Default adblocking and tracking built in blocks everything and sites load super quick. Opera Touch is also pretty wonderful and blocks ads that even Firefox misses, although pages don’t seem to open ad quickly IMO.

Not everyone shares your feeling on the subject (an opinion is actually fact based). I use safari technology preview, mostly to clear cookies and tracking data whenever I feel like it. It is an excellent experience. I use Chrome from time to time, but meh nothing special. I have used Opera, meh same nothing special. Seriously, it is just a browser, none of them do anything special or are too unique, or they wouldn't be able to render web pages successfully, or run html5.

but....some research, using google: "My overall takeaway is that Safari still appears to be the fastest browser on the Mac, but not by nearly as much as it used to be. Overall, Safari was 6% faster than Chrome across all tests, winning 3 of the 5 tests." https://birchtree.me/blog/summer-2018-browser-speed-test-mac-and-ios-edition

Not to question your feelings on the subject, but clearly you must have a non-emotive decision criteria.

That test didn’t test the new Firefox, or Opera Touch browsers.

I am on my phone, only my phone, all day.

Firefox is currently the fastest browser app you can install.

“With trackers and ads disabled, I found that Firefox functioned much better than Chrome did. That is understandable since a lesser workload mostly translates into a smoother browsing experience. Combine that with the ability to hide hefty web images, and Firefox performs best on iOS, even if your iPhone or iPad is a bit older.”

This is for the app, not laptop browser versions. Firefox Quantum is a joy! With tracker blocking and ads disabled it’s like, click a link, site is opened. Boom.

“Performance and Speed. Mozillaclaims that Firefox Quantum is twice as fast as its predecessors and loads web pages faster and uses 30% less memory than Chrome.”

Not really sure why you'd have an issue give business to Google. Apple definitely doesn't. Neither does MR... or any other tech site you probably visit.

Pretty simple really. Why should I want google to gather vast quantities of info about me (or you) to sell to others and store forever in their databases. This is potentially very bad for democracy, putting all that information in the hands of a few.

Anyone knows if this Edge is telling the website that it’s Edge or Chrome/Chromium? If the agent is Edge I’m sure it will still have a lot of incompatibilities with ****** sites.

Oh, and I browsed Edge on the iOS App Store. The 4th image shows a library of ebooks! Wow such a weird feature of a web browser?

Dude, all browsers on iOS use the same render as Safari. Al browsers are the same just with different skins. Any speed difference would be due to content/tracking blockers, which may be built-in in other browsers but there are tons of blockers for free in the iOS App Store.

That explanation is quite simple. I was unaware Google was selling our information to others. Is that like the selling of info that our telecoms were doing, or is it the "selling" that certain forum members use to euphamistically describe selling ad space? Last I checked, those things weren't quite the same. But please... tell me more.

I assume they’re spending resource on this for a good reason. Why should I use this instead of Safari or Chrome? Does Microsoft have their own bookmark sync etc? Tight interaction with OneDrive? Are they pushing users to Bing (which is ******)?

I have a Mac in corporate, but I always use Safari first, and then move to Chrome if the site is ****** coded and don’t work properly in Safari. When and why should I launch this browser?

No one is making you use it...

Everyone has their own personal preferences for browsers.
