I think that expandable storage and removable batteries are overrated. But to most Android users I know, it is paramount. Its such an important thing, that the ones I know don't even have an SD card or an extra battery. When I ask "Why do you value a removable battery but not have spare?," the response is: "Because I need a way to reset the device when it locks up."

:eek::eek: I would've told them you can reset your device simply by turning it off if you run into a case when an iPad locks up. Do they ever add the cost of the additional battery to the price of their purchase?

As you said, they have sold millions of iPads, so, you really think they need multiple accounts? They will put multiple account when they need them, because without that feature, they sell more than the rest. Its the same as the iPhone, "they need a bigger screen bla bla bla"... No they don't, at least not right now... Because in one day they sold 10 times what Samsung sold.

That's absolutely mental. Sounds a bit like Microsoft circa 2005 - they will make a proper touch-centric OS when they need one because without it they sell more than the rest, in one day they sold 10 times what Apple sold...

I prefer a removable battery so that when it doesn't hold a charge that well, I can replace it my self for $30 instead of paying Apple $120.

If :apple: addresses this, they'll take a long hard look at what people are trying to solve here, and realize that people don't want multiple accounts, they want to better compartmentalize their activities - and :apple: will implement a solution superior to "one person, multiple accounts for multiple uses" and sell more hardware as a result.

The problem with multiple accounts for multiple users is there's just one device among them, creating consternation when they both want it. We live in a world increasingly dominated by multiple devices per user, not the other way 'round: I sit here surrounded by not one computer (broadly defined), but six; hardware is getting cheap enough that there is little reason for one device for multiple people.

I agree. If you haven't seen how BB does it, take a look at it. It is pretty slick and allows the user to switch between accounts with a single swipe. Of course this is set to one account split among a business and personal accounts.

But the same can be said about desktops and laptops. A lot of houses only have one computer with multiple accounts per computer.

I am hoping apple gives us something to what the users are asking for.

If they earned more money, they could buy iPads for each of their kids. Simple. :)

And money grows on trees. Everyone who asks for a raise at work gets it. All companies are generous with bonuses. People don't have large families. Whatever.

We share one iPad all of the time. And yeah, I have biz stuff on it. Mail and messages are the only real deals so I am the only one that does that. For the others it is a convenience device. Watch or stream something, look something up. Whatever. Logging in. Logging out. Bleh. Can do that on the iMac.

These ads are [bleeping] stupid, as usual. They aren't accurate and only tell half the story. I like the idea of monitoring, but actually I'd rather just use the parental controls in iOS. Monitoring is like watching hours of CC footage to see who snuck the cookie from the kitchen, I'd rather just lockup the cookies and not worry about it.

This is just like walking onto the Hyundai lot and buying a Genisis. Sure it looks just like a Mercedes, but it's still a Hyundai underneath and will last and perform accordingly.

These features are neat - and they should highlight them - but the direct comparison to the iPad is just dumb. Why can't they just highlight the cool features without mentioning anything about the iPad.

If you cut these two adds down to remove anything about an iPad they could show off both of these features within 60 seconds and not remind anyone of their competition....

Exactly they expend so much energy trying to knock the competition that their message is diluted and it just becomes a kind of advert about their competition rather than a platform for the benefits of their own product.

iOS does not need multi-user support.

True. iPhone, iPad...what makeS them great is portability so you have them everywhere you go. For your own personal use at anytime when you want to. Sharing accounts not a must feature, more like a after thought.

I support calling macrumors people out on their negativity, and I dont want to split hairs, but you are talking about peoples emotional responses, so its worth considering the somewhat different tone of the kind of cheeky and playful PC Guy ads, vs a seemingly endless barrage of kind of lame cricitisms which come off more as complaining. You also have to think about all of the advertisements, like those really embarassing ones after the iphone came out - after seeing that, your initial reaction to even advertisements which raise a valid issue (the multi user one seems important to some) is "oh, here we go again".

Yes Apple ran anti PC / window advertisements. However they managed to do it in a way that didnt seem winey/b*tchy.

Finally - you are on an apple forum.

How we interpret any given advertising campaign (cheeky and playful vs. bitchy and whiney) is going to depend a great deal on where we happen to stand. I know lots of people viewed Apple's PC Guy/Mac Guy ads as insufferably supercilious, which they certainly were, but a lot of people liked them all the more for that reason. All of these ads are intended to affect us at some primal level, so we should not blame any one company for hitting us in the gut in way that doesn't happen to work for us, when they are all trying to do the same thing in the name of flogging their products.

My feeling is MR does way too much cheerleading for the home team, and I say that as a loyal Apple customer of 30 years, stockholder for over 15 years, and a member of this forum for more than ten years (not to mention, at one time a very public critic of Microsoft). If MR wants to be taken seriously as a source of Apple journalism (and I know they do), then freely blending news items with such openly partisan spin will never do. These lapses into fanzine-style journalism undermines their credibility, and I can't imagine for a moment why they'd want to do that.

You will probably find that people with less disposable income would not let their kids anywhere near their iPad multiple accounts or not.;)

true that. I don't have an ipad, but I wouldn't want anyone in my famly handling it if I did.

I do have to agree. It was cheap or maybe just greedy on Apple's part not to offer expendable storage. A micro SD slot would have been easy to add to the iPad and then a user could pop in a 32GB card if more storage were needed.

This option is available for the ipad! Just go to the store and ask for usb/sd plug!

The second ad, the one about multiple user accounts and usage monitoring makes a very big point. The reason why Apple has not implementes this is, I guess, to sell more iPads, since it should be fairly simple to implement. That alone would make me seriously consider a Surface, specially with kids in the house.

Hopefully the competition will keep making better, more open products. That will benefit everyone.

This is in no way simple. Consider this:

1: Space is taken on the drive for each user.
2: iCloud backups, for each user or the whole device?
3: Ability to tether with one or severel pc's macs?
4: Family of four, one device, who's gonna have it through daytime? I use mine for work, so I can't leave it at home in chance my wife needs it.

Multiple user accounts is fine for a PC.... But the iPad or generic tablet is not a PC.

Just my thoughts.

Microsoft is just lost

Two things. 1) The voice actor is horrible, this ad just sounds bad. 2) This is what Microsoft thinks are advantages to selling the Surface 2? They had to say “free apps” for the iPad and then made a point about voice recognition and background noise… Take a look at "voice recognition" on Surface, yes, this is what they link to from the Surface main site: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/using-speech-recognition

I really hope Apple will not ever cave in to this obnoxious trend of making anti-(competitor product) ads.

I guess you never heard Jobs bash Microsoft or his good friend Bill Gates publicly then?

----------

I'd like to see a Surface tablet with 3 accounts on it! I bet it comes to a grinding halt! Remember, Microsoft does not care if their tablets are usable, they are just trying to sell tablets! Microsoft lost a lot of credibility with Windows 7 and they are still paying for it now! Also, Microsoft has had a really rocky start with usability and the Dr. Jekll / Mr. Hyde nature of Windows 8! That is not Apple's fault!

How did Microsoft lose credibility with Windows 7? It was the most popular operating system ever made.

Something Apple hasn't done for years? I mean when's the last time Apple ran an ad on TV or the web that directly went after a competitor? With Microsoft going after both Apple and Google it just shows how insecure the company really is.

Or how insecure Apple users are to get bent out of shape over an advertisement from a competitor.

----------

Apple has proven a thousand times they are not a company that made cheap products, and they have been just fine.

I Don't expect Bloomingdales to put their prices down because people don't have money, that's why Walmart exists... That's how the world works...

And Walmart sells Apple products.

Not just that. What if two users want to have the same content? Most people probably want to share music, photos, contacts, settings, movies, and/or (most importantly) apps between users. And then you have the problem of someone leaving apps running and hogging resources while another user has it. No, too much of a PC solution.

Should be one user account with support for multiple Apple IDs for purchasing stuff (including IAPs). Maybe developer APIs for separate user data in some apps.

You got me on number 1. Valley Girl speak used to be confined to Southern California (where it was bad enough), but it seems to have gone nationwide in recent years. Pronouncing "guest" as "gast" and "protect" as "protact" is bound to annoy those of us over a certain age, but it's so common now that I can't lay it at Microsoft's door.

You'd be an awful boyfriend, just by reading your posts.

Wow. You just made the same 'rush to judgement' that you're chiding me for.

I said that I could tell right away that someone wasn't girlfriend material, and you were upset by that and you could tell right away I'm an awful boyfriend. Seems like the pot calling the kettle black.
