Since this is available during their testing, does it convert to the full program that will be available and released during the summer? In other words, is it free and will it remain free or is it more of a trial period run?

Hopefully Microsoft prices it fairly high so that they make a healthy profit so they can maintain sustainability and keep improving their products. I'd like to see them make as much money as possible. :D:D

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

So I have a 365 subscription - will this download automatically or will I have to install this separately?

Giving it a try but it's ugly, just like Office 2013 on the PC. The CAPS for the headings is annoying and ugly. The rest looks like a warmed over Office 2011.

Will be OK for those that need office - I'll probably stick with iWork as I have for the past 2 years.

It's not available as part of your subscription because it isn't released to the public yet. Just download the Preview and run alongside 2011.

Goodbye iWork. I only needed you until MS came out with an updated product.

But how much will it cost?

It appears that the full release will be available for a normal 365 subscription. That's per their FAQ: "When is the official release? [Answer:] The official release is in the second half of 2015. Get your Office 365 subscription today, customers with active subscription will be entitled to the newest versions when available."

2016—Why is it named almost a full year ahead of its time? Does Microsoft do this so that the product will "seem new" for a longer time? So it'll have less pressure to issue an update until further in the future?

Not surprising the interface is identical to the Windows version after the OneNote release, but disappointing. So much wasted vertical space. And the new Pages wastes so much horizontal space. Can't win. #Pages44Life.

Get a vertical monitor. Most applications make much better use of the real estate offered by a vertical monitor than a horizontal ones. About the only time a horizontal monitor is better is if you're doing something with photos or videos. Or games.

Consider how much more often you use your iPhone vertically than horizontally when given the choice.

I am very happy. As much as I would like to use iWork or LibreOffice, M$ Excel is one of the most powerful, reliable tools ever created.

Will someone please check to see if the new Word will do *right-to-left* paragraphing? This obvious feature (present in the Windows version for over a decade) has never been available in MacWord, Gates alone knows why. If it is...I'll bite the bullet re the "updated interface" and switch when the standalone version comes out. If not...I'll stick with Office 2008. :(

ROFL! Excel is nice but hardly reliable. Powerful is subjective.

I'm in a corporate environment and work just fine with LibreOffice. You don't need MS stuff for 90% of "work" that needs to get done.
