I'm sorry, Microsoft, but the flight left some time ago. Mr Ballmer decided that his "precious" was not to be on it.

Unfortunately for you - time, having flown, can not be recalled.

Thank you for your interest in Mobility Airlines. Have a nice day.

Yes, right beside the person(s) who came up with Adobe's Creative Cloud.

This hate comes from those who want to crack it (myself included). If you are a person that just want to use photoshop to mess a little bit and nothing else (like me), having to pay for it really sucks. But if you are a large enterprise, then is just the same paying for subscription or one-time fee

Very enterprising reaction.

Nie thought, but why would Microsoft release a major software package to a competitor, only to get a small one-time fee? If MS is going to make available their flagship desktop software to a competitor, it has to be worth their time (monetarily).

I am very happy to see Office for iPad. It looks much better than the iWork apps. I purchased a home subscription, not because I am planning to do any editing of Office documents, but because I want to have a license for the upcoming Office 2014 for Mac and also the Windows Office 2013. The editing capability on the iPad is an added bonus for me.
I plan to use the office apps only for editing business documents. I will probably still continue using iWork for private stuff, but this hasn't been decided yet. I will continue testing both suites and then decide.
I have 45GB On my OneDrive, so now I can cancel my Dropbox premium subscription and save some money (that I invested on an O365 Home premium sub).
Microsoft is certainly on the right track here and I like their approach.

I just wish now for a much better OneNote Mac client (which also got updated on the iPad today)

"Q: What languages and markets is Office for iPad available in?

A: We offer Office for iPad in the following 29 languages: Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish , Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish , Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Slovak, Spanish , Swedish, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian."

Thanks :) appreciated

You can order it from MS's web site directly, then (I assume) log into the iPad versions using the account.

Yes, you can. Microsoft specifically mentioned that 365 subscribers will get Office for iPad free of charge. But that's not what the other poster I responded to said. He/she said you don't pay for 365 from the App Store. You can. And honestly, if people here love Microsoft so much and hate Apple enough to sign up for 365 outside the App Store just to avoid Apple getting money then those people have bigger problems in life and shouldn't be using any of Apple's products in the first place.

Where is Outlook for iPad

No one has asked so I will.

Where is Outlook for iPad? Exchange users would like to know.

How does this work for us Office users wedded to keyboard shortcuts? I use them in Excel all the time because they're so much faster.

With all the arguments about Office vs. iWork, it doesn't matter which is better. The bottom line is, Office is the defacto standard, especially in the business world. If you send someone an Office doc, chances are 99 percent they will be able to open it. With iWork, I'd be surprised if 10 percent could.

You would be surprised then, since 100% are. I see more problems opening Office docs with Office apps.

I don't think we will see that happening any time soon. Microsoft has OWA for iPad with support for O365 and Exchange Server 2013 on premises installations with CU3 or higher installed. It provides a better email experience than the standard mail.app, but of course you need an Exchange account to use it.

It's a no brainer for me if you use office. Bought from Amazon at £65 for a year, installed on 5 computers in multiple languages which is useful for me plus up to 5 devices like phones and ipads. For less money than a Netflix subscription.... Netflix cancelled.

Exactly.

But isn't that who already makes up most of Office purchases anyway?

I'm confused why so people in these comments think Microsoft Office is some huge consumer application.

Well, it used to be a consumer application.

I'm sorry, but there's no way, I'll be embracing the subscription model when there are already alternatives that don't require my monthly payment.

For everyone else, it'll be Office on a computer.

It won't be black and white. Different people have different needs. Mac and iPad users that need Office, or are more familiar with it, will probably consider Microsoft's O365 Home Premium subscription. It provides many benefits:
  • 20GB additional space on OneDrive
  • Free Skype minutes
  • Office 2013 for Windows & Office for Mac (up to 5 clients)
  • Editing capability on mobile devices

I understand that people who don't need all of the above and do not need to work with Office files for their work, that they might believe that Microsoft's offering isn't that interesting. For them, there is iWork.

What does Netflix have to do with Office?

Oh you noticed too? Well, you know...Microsoft wasn't going to give Apple's customers EVERYTHING they offer to their Surface customers. That's how generous M$ is. Hopefully for the people who need/want it it will be on it's way because that would be one of the main applications for business users.

Seriously, I cannot purchase from App Store. It will tell me not available in my country (Canada).

I was forced to do some extensive work with Excel this past weekend in a way I haven't needed to in years. Excel (at least for Mac) really is crap. It is reasonably capable but not very usable. Let me use the cursor keys in a formula edit field without inserting cell references all over, for crying out loud!

It flared up my anger at how badly there needs to be an alternative-- and so far Numbers hasn't been that alternative. Numbers is reasonably usable but not very capable.

I will agree that the Mac version of MS doesn't seem quite user-friendly the Windows version. I do have Windows 7 in boot camp and could load up MS Office 2007 if I really wanted, but I don't
