If you use OneDrive then you will see the document on your iPad too. I think that real time collaboration doesn't work between the two (editing the same document at the same time from an iPad and Office 2010/3).

I wasn't aware that OneDrive could be used with Office 2010 - never thought to check. I assumed it was only for use with 365?

Goodness. Have some reading-up to do.

Indirectly yes. You won't see an Onedrive option in Office 2010, but you can use the Windows OneDrive client on your PC to sync your documents.

Ah. Thanks - live and learn. Will have a look tomorrow at what I can work out.

If you purchase a home premium subscription you get Office 2013 also. You have the right to install up to 5 copies of the PC and/or Mac version.

Office 2013 does have more direct OneDrive integration.

If I type up a document on my work pc, using Office 2010 (Enterprise) - does that link/sync to my iPad's Office 365 app? If it does - then I would purchase 365 today. If it doesn't - then it's not integrated?

OneDrive, yes.

my stepmother downloading these thinking they were free and fully functional. After she found out she had to pay for full functionality she deleted them. makes me wonder how many others thought the same thing.

Just goes to show that no one READS the product description which fully states that a qualifying Office 365 subscription is required to edit and create documents.

It astonishes me that people actually think Microsoft would give away their flagship software products for free in the first place.

As said above, it clearly states that a 365 sub is required. Why can't people read?

Yes. It's pretty much wrong, unless you are only interested in MathType, which is totally fine.

For 79 you get to use Office on 2 PC's or Mac, 2 tablets, get 20gb online storage and 60 Skype Minutes every month. All this for 4 years, updates included. When MathType releases a new update, you'll probably have to pay.

And more, if you write your thesis with Pages + MathType you gonna have a bad time exporting it to doc, it always ends up a mess.

For $59 I got to use Pages, Numbers, and Keynote on every device I access. (more than 2 pc's and 2 tablets). The Skype minutes are worthless since everyone I talk to FaceTimes (for free), and the 20GB of online storage... For $20. That's not that incredible.

As for exporting to a .doc, not a problem at all. No mess. Like no matter how complicated I make it, the export works 100%. So...

No, I do not see that the math is wrong.

----------

79 gives you 2 computers and 2 mobile device for 4 years. Yeah, I think you are doing your math wrong. How many computers can you install MathType? If you can directly type mathematical formulas and equations directly on Office, why would you even bother to,switch between two different app to accomplish same task?

----------

You have 1 month free trail.... You just need to sign up for it

$59 gets me every device I currently use. So no, I do not see that the math is wrong. From Math Types website:

10. Can I install MathType on more than one computer?
Yes, if you purchase a single-user copy of MathType, you can install it on all of your computers as long as you use it on only one of them at a time. Installing it on your office computer and your laptop is allowed—installing it on your friend's or coworker's computer is not.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

----------

I see.

How likely is that occurring in this particular case?

Are there not dozens if not hundreds of applications that will read MS Office file now?

I get your point, and with other SW developers, I'd be right there with you. Clearly this situation is different.

How? You mean you want to use the "too big to fail" excuse? I seem to have heard that somewhere before.

The free version is a joke! It’s just a useless viewer when you know that most of ipad web browsers or business app includes great viewers. There are even some business apps that includes comments features for docs in their viewers (Beesy or Trello for example)
Then, when I think about all the great apps I can get for $100 instead of buying the office subscription…

Nobody is going to pay the subscription price just to have the watered-down iPad version. It comes as part of the package that includes the full Office suite also available for other platforms, notably Windows. Office is the standard in productivity, has a ton of features and cannot be replaced by cheap iPad apps. If you need the real thing and is part of a large corporation, then you do probably have or is considering Microsoft Office 365. Otherwise, and provided that full compatibility is not an issue, the cheap alternatives may be fine for you to use on the iPad.

Thank God!

Thank God!

It just makes me want an iPad that much more! I'm willing to go for an older model if the price is right. Anyone have any good suggestions on which? or where I should get one?

I know that is the price for all the office suite for iPad. Still i find this overpriced, considering its lack of printing feature in all the suite nor VBA for excel...
Then, it is a standard for work I agree, but for productivity on iPad it is not so sure. As a matter of fact I think if you want to really increase your productivity you should opt for a dedicated productivity app (like Beesy or Trello I already told about but there are many) and keep using your laptop for documents creation. Then for quick edition, alternatives to Office for iPad work just fine (I'm good with QuickEdit).
I speak by experience and, even if I know some "ipad-only" people who does great with Officesubscription, for most of people I think it is best to keep a computer at hand.

Because Google dropped prices first, also MS refuses to release #s paid subscribes to things like XBox Music Pass, OneDrive. Leads me to believe it's an anemic user base.

Google also doesn't give numbers for active anything.

Neither does Apple.

Neither does Samsung.

So I guess they're all desperate. :)

No.

Sold to who?

How many of those are sales to channels?
How many people are using them today?
How many of those are upgrades, where the one before is in a landfill?
How many people are using iCloud?
How many people are using iTunes Match?
How many people are using iTunes Radio?

100s of millions of iOS users are automatically using iCloud.

iTunes Match & Radio are hobby projects for Apple. It doesn't matter how slowly they grow.

Whereas MS touts XBox Music and OneDrive as "critical" to company success.

"Hundreds of millions" is marketing, not specific. There are likely "hundreds of millions" of OneDrive users, since they ask you to set it up when you get a Windows 8.1 computer.

Where are the specific numbers for iPhones sold to users? iPads? They gave specific numbers for the amount of people USING OS X. They haven't given that number for iOS at all.

Apple is dropping prices on iCloud as well coming this fall with the release of iOS 8 and Yosemite. So does that also mean that Apple has an anemic user base?

Apple can afford to play price cutting games on iCloud because that was never their revenue engine. By undercutting or matching competing cloud services they make the Apple ecosystem even stickier for consumers. Very clever.
