Still disappointed to see the toolbar AND the ribbon, but some of the other changes (including part of the ribbon...) look good. Hopefully Outlook is more than just Entourage on steroids; I see they've at least added a few things.

On a related note, the guy in the first part of the video is distractingly attractive. :D

What level of use do you, me or someone else need?

It's just not as good as iWork, IMO.

I've tried just about every spreadsheet that is or has been available for the Mac since 1984. Excel has always won. That usually meant updating to the newest version of MS Excel for the Mac. I have my income tax prep, payroll & other accounting sheets written in Excel 11, aka Excel 2004. For my tax prep program Excel 12, aka Excel 2008 runs as slow as a dead dog. Also my tax prep program would need to be totally rewritten to work in Excel 2008. No amount of rewriting will make it work with Numbers.

I hope that Excel 2011 for the Mac will build on Excel 2004 & not the dog called Excel 2008. With Intel Macs all the new Macs that have been made for many years now the time will come when PPC programs will not run on a new Mac.

Since most people have different requirements for their computer programs iWork may do for you, MS Office for others & still different programs for others. We do use Pages for much of our lighter duty word processing needs. To me it is not iWork or MS Office, it is iWork & MS Office. They both do different things better. That means that I have both installed on all of my Macs.

Outlook looks very promising. I hope excel is a big improvement too, because Numbers in iWork is the biggest pile of junk I've ever used.

great, the next office for mac will be developed by 12 year olds! I hope it doesn't have a whole bunch of facebook direct integration, api's and process hogs just because 12 year olds can't think in parallel streams!

then it will be designed AND manufactured by 12 year olds. In some countries, that would qualify as a luxury :D

I thought I was doing well career wise for my age. These kids are all managers? MacBu is like peewees friggin playhouse.

They'll all work 90 hours a week until they have families and burn out at 30.

Get your **** together, Microsoft. Three points:

1, it's faster to fire up VMWare fusion and start an Office app from your virtual XP installation than to start the equivalent Mac:Office app

2, freaking feature parity. That's not too much to ask, is it?

3, oh, I dunno, how about the same GUI on both Windows and OS X?

I hope there's a long segment on how they came to design the enormously screen-hogging toolbar that runs horizontally across the top instead of vertically along the side (where there's more room with wide screens). This has to be one of the most boneheaded interfaces I've ever seen in my life. Typical Microsoft.

Its actually very unlike Microsoft with the trackrecord of releases of this product. This one is fast, and it really has some intriguing features. Very fast on my machines.

Will it do right-to-left?

The Windows version of Office does right-to-left correctly. The Macintosh version does not do it at all. Will this change? Will we be able to do sorting based on language such as Hebrew or Farsi - as can now be done, even on columns where each column is a different language - in OpenOffice, which is free?

When will we get a version of Access for the Macintosh?

When will we get a complete version of Basic for the Macintosh?

When will Microsoft stop treating Macintosh users as third rate citizens?

Rick

Where did he go?

Where's clippy!

cool. i love the current office for mac.

This is the first time I've heard anyone say they love Office 2008.

Sounds great. I am a big fan of the Windows version of Word, I am forced to use it at work and can't wait to get the ribbon on my mac.

This is the first time I've heard anyone say they were fan of any office suite, let alone Word.

I don't know guys, I switched from Office for Mac to iWork several years ago, but I'm really liking everything I've seen so far about Office 2011. I'm definitely considering going back.

Microsoft's developers look like they're still in high school.

"Three is no step three! You can do it all in two steps!"

I can imagine hey would fit in as characters in a Parks & Recreation episode.

I liked them.
Granted, I'm 19, but still.

You know what I don't like however? Parks & Recreation. Worst show ever.

Mac Division may be why

What drugs does Microsoft feed to its employees? They all seem unrealistically enthusiastic.

This is Microsoft Office we're talking about, right?

Yes, but this is the Mac Programming Division. This means that they get to use Macs. If they were Windows programmers then I would wonder just like you.
