Hmm
And how would you feel if the modern version of Office required OS X 10.10 as is rumored/suspected in this thread?
Not upset. My affinity with Microsoft Office was lost some time ago. When I use (for example) LibreOffice,
I simply don't think about the Microsoft alternatives.
I
responded to Microsoft's tweet. Also,
The Office 2016 Mac Preview is here! Office Blogs (2015-03-05) amongst the comments from me,
Yes, on Mavericks. As expected, the application icons had the 'no entry' appearance.
Yosemite only.
I can't tell you how bitterly upset I am.
disappointed and a little surprised. Office:2011 supports OS X back to SL, so I assumed that new Office would go back few versions as well.
not mad at Microsoft, just disappointed since I've waiting so long for this. 🙁
Why would they make it only for Yosemite only.
Amongst the reasons: I guess, an opportunity to
cram stuff into previously unused space would have been irresistible to some Microsoft people.
At a glance: some interface elements that were traditionally in toolbars and/or ribbons are now, instead, in the
Yosemite-style title bar by default. That creates unused space in the ribbon, but the saving is horizontal only a somewhat strange design choice, given the popularity of widescreen displays.
Really,
this Office is not properly 'for Mac'.
To redesign this Microsoft Office for compatibility, with Macs that run anything other than Yosemite, would require using something other than the title bar for Microsoft's undo and redo buttons, and so on. The ribbon could be ideal; there's unused space in Microsoft's screenshots.
Some of this is change for the sake of change, Yosemite style. But if Microsoft had created a more compatible preview, with apps that use title bars in the traditional way, then some users would have screamed about a lack of modernity. Nice going, Apple.
Apple could have modernised the appearance of OS X without the contentious changes to the title bar. Instead, now we have situations such as this. Microsoft and Yosemite lovers, enjoy
