Office continues to work well for me with my fairly simple needs.

-The only crashes, ironically enough, have been when trying to get documents from OneDrive.
-I miss the keyboard shortcut for entering equations in Word and Excel, alt-equals, I think it was, and can't figure out how to add it back using the shortcut feature. Anybody know how?
-The drawing canvas seems to have disappeared from Word, and that makes me sad because I used it a lot for making figures.
-Excel, in particular, feels very slow; it looks like it does little animations or something, maybe it'll get sped up in revisions.

Yosemite still strikes me as almost butt-ugly. I use the graphite setting, and cdock to make the dock 3D again, and I need to replace those awful blue folder icons (that color blue makes me think of tuxes in the '70's, Jony). With my desktop background, manila-colored folders would look good, maybe I'll try to find some and strike a skeumorphic blow.

?

Does Word 2016 still have the "Focus View" of Office 2011 where the word document filled the screen with a dark background? I liked that for reviewing.

Yes, it is really very slow. It cannot be compared to the speed of Office 2013 for Windows running in the same machine.

Can you answer the above question (previous post) about Focus view?

I've attached screenshots to show the feature incase you never used it and don't know what I mean.

As far as my testing goes Focus View Mode is gone.
As is the Notebook Style View.

Please, instead of simply being sad, contact Microsoft and let them now.

I'm not running the Preview so I have not feedback option.

Besides, it won't make a difference. Design is already set, but I'd love the colored themes like on the iPad or the new 2016 Windows preview.

This preview is really frustrating. It looks to have great potential, but there is extreme lag when dragging/selecting cells. Also, Excel has a complete meltdown when I try and Freeze Panes. After I do so, I can select nothing on screen.

I think the issue is lag between touchpad input and what appears on the screen. Another example, in Excel I'll select cells to copy, then drag; nothing appears on screen, then 4 seconds later I've copied down to row 10,000.

I'm happy to say the newest update (just received today) fixes most of the lag issues. It completely fixed the unresponsive cursor issue where cells/rows/columns could not be selected using the cursor on a seemingly random basis. I reported the issue only 48 hours ago, so that is a good sign...

Hello guys.
Has anyone tried to open a docx file created with word 2015 preview for mac from a computer running windows office?
I mean is it totally reliable or not yet?
Thank you.

I have sent nothing but 2016 Preview word .docx files to colleagues at the college where I work, and while I have not seen them on their machines, I have had nothing said to me. Some formatted, some just listings of items etc. But no ill reports back. FWIW!

No Calendar Sync with Outlook 2016

I've just installed the preview package on my Mac Mini. Mainly concerned with what Outlook has to offer.

Aside from the constant crashes the biggest omission which has disappointed me is that there is still no way to sync Outlook's calendar or contacts with external calendar providers unless you have access to an MS Exchange service (and can afford it).

Apparently the Windows version can sync using EAS or EWS (not sure which) with Outlook.com's calendars.

Looks like I'll be sticking with Thunderbird and its Google Calendar add-ins...

The one discussed and pictured on The Verge

Ha. I actually checked and thought that this is how it already looks. What I then realized is, that it doesn't :D.

Only the Status Bar at the bottom is currently colored.

Well, alright then. I'd like to have a dark theme though too. That is, imo, the only one acceptable with Office 2013. All the others are just to eyes-burning white.

Formatting seems fine.

However, I have noticed some of the bugs that I found in Word 2011. It seems like Office 2016 is just form over content.

My Word 2015 preview edition has serious problems.
If I try to select a part of the text the system becomes unstable.
I will return to my Office 2011 version for now.

My install is still up and running strong. I use Outlook and Word daily without issue. SOOO much better than 2011 to me.

I'm an avid iWork user because it suits my needs just fine (in fact there are some things I can't do on excel because I only know how to do them on Numbers!) and I prefer AppleScript to VB Macro's.

However, I strongly support office for iPad/Mac. I recognize the importance of MS Office apps on these platforms, for those who need them. And with apple adding native OneDrive support recently, iOS/Mac looks ever more a strong and neutral platform. I look forward to the new office for mac being released to the public :)

I found that the save as PDF (under Export, now, I believe) in the Powerpoint preview does not allow saving handouts (multiple slides per page), though you are still able to print handouts. CUPS-PDF crapped out on my MacBook after the Yosemite upgrade, but I installed PDFWriter, and was able to print to the virtual printer it creates.

You may need to use the print dialog for that.

Can people continue to post updates to Office's performance as beta updates become available? Speed and fluidity is one of my major concerns.

Thanks.

I find Excel to be slower then on my Surface Pro 3, I'm not sure if this is due to software bloat or because its a beta. My SP3 is a slower computer then my rMBP, apps like Lightroom and DXO Optics pro fly on my rMBP but are a bit slow on my SP3. The exact opposite occurs between my rMBP and SP3 with Excel.
