Well, it's released to the public. I must admit I'm surprised. Just today I filed some bug reports on the beta.

one of the things missing from excel 2016 is ability to use shortcuts for all the items on the ribbon toolbar. so in windows you can press alt, and it brings up the shortcut key for all items on the ribbon, so for example you can press alt, H, and it will show shortcuts on the ribbon and then you can press I for indentation, L for highlight, etc (making up these shrotcuts as i dont remember the precise ones). on mac if i do alt h or alt f it just inserts a special character in the cell.

is this is the same for everyone, or do i have to change some settings? considering they were able to apply all the other ALT shortcuts from windows on the mac, i can't see these extended shortcuts being a problem to introduce as well.

Anyone else suffering with the new Excel? I cannot open anything on Onedrive...it just say refreshing and then nothing. Quit the app and restart it and it re-shows the welcome screen every time.

donwloaded the latest release... opened a ppt to work on, in 5' I ran into 5 problems. closed everything, reopened in office 2011, all works fine.

in my experience, office 2016 takes forever to launch (I'd say 10 bounces on average compared to near instantaneous for 2011), it doesn't bring anything new except a new look and tools you knew were in a certain place have been rearranged, you now have to find where they are

I just downloaded the update, let me work on it and see. I was in the middle of working on my spreadsheets so I deferred any updates.

do i have to wait for the one time purchase office 2016 or buy office 2011 at cheap price in my country ?

Looking for the upgrade price from 2011.

When 2011 came out many felt 2008 was faster, due to fewer features. I wonder if 2016 will be the same.

I just installed the new version Office for Mac 2016 and I am very disappointed that it is still a 32 bit application and it's not possible to use Outlook in Full Screen mode, is it just me or Microsoft is not listening to their customers? what are the changes compared to Office for Mac 2011?

I'm pretty happy so far with the results so far, though I had excel crash on my last night when the prior betas were (for the most part) pretty stable.

It seems like there isn't standalone pricing for Office 2016. All I see is Office 365 subscriptions. If I were to get this via the subscription, could I apply a standalone key later? I bought 2011 as a 2 license version (standalone) a few years back and I'd like to do the same. If I were to cancel Office 365, do the apps just stop working?

According to the linked article, you'll be able to buy in September. Yes, if you cancel Office 365, you'll lose access to what you have now.

I feel there are no relevant changes from Office 2011. It seems to me that Microsoft updated the interface, but did very little to include more features. The underlying code is probably the same as in Office 2011, or very similar.

I am disappointed at the release. Five years and all we get is the same thing in a neater package. I am using Office 2013 for Windows instead.

Actually, a lot of the underlying code did change. If you read what they said, Office 2016 on the Mac and iOS share much of the same codebase. According to everything I've read, this includes removing all traces of the Carbon framework to the more modern Cocoa. There are also some features, and I'll link you to some articles that point them out.

They aren't huge things, and the iPad had them first, but there are quite a few important changes between 2011 and 2016 that will help for both current users and their own future development.

Thanks.

I had read somewhere that the iOS version used the code of OS X version, so they probably removed the Carbon traces but not rewrote the code.

In any case, I don't see any big improvement in terms of features, at least in Word, which is the program I use more (didn't have much chance to fully test the others yet). And neither in performance.

Office 2016 for Mac still has much of the same features of Office 2011, it seems to me. And Office 2011 was still lagging behind Office 2010 for Windows. Now Windows seems to be two versions ahead with the release of the forthcoming Office 2016.

No matter how much the code of Office for Mac will improve from now on, it seems to me very unlikely that it will come close to narrowing this large gap.

This Office 2016 for Mac looks part of the new Microsoft strategy of offering a consistent Office experience everywhere, but not replicating every feature. Office is there for the Mac, and it offers a compelling alternative to Google Docs, for instance. But if you want the real thing, the all-powerful Office, you still have to go Windows.

Bloke in the office is having a problem with a spreadsheet whereby when he presses enter after editing a cell, whatever is in his clipboard will be copied into the cell below.

Is this normal behaviour of some option being left on?

I'm able to open it in the app, by way of Finder and even online, i.e., OneDrive.live.com

No issues at all.
