If you have a Microsoft Store near you, they are giving away Office 365 free to the first 50 people who bring in an iPad and ask. This is the full version one year subscription. They give you a product key to use for the download and you have to download it to your Mac or PC first.

This late in the day I would be surprised if there were any of those left...

I'm glad I got the university discount. $80 for a four year subscription is definitely worth it. Plus, I have 27GB of onedrive space that I use for everything.

I can understand people being skeptical of $99/year, but for me and my circumstances I'd be open to paying for the yearly subscription.

I had to work on a manuscript while I was traveling. With a wireless keyboard and my iPad, I had no problems with Pages. I completed about 1/4 of the manuscript on a train. So I, for one, can work on a tablet office suit. :)

Something that I was thinking about regarding Office on the iPad: remember when Jobs was thrilled to have Bill Gates providing software for the original Mac? Microsoft helped keep Apple afloat for many years. Now it's as if the tables have turned and Apple is providing a revenue stream for MS. Obviously, MS isn't in the dire straits that Apple was decades ago. But it's interesting how the tech industry has changed.

Apple and Microsoft have a relatively friendly working relationship. They may work together more as both probably see Google as the enemy.

You realize that you just suggested that some of these die-hard Microsoft haters who wouldn't dare pay $99 to use Office go INTO (let alone be SEEN) in a Microsoft STORE.

Man - you so crazy!

I just picked one up. And knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if they give out more than 50 per store. The promotion is supposed to last until 50 copies are gone or until Sunday.

Rather sad they didn't even have 50 folks at this hour then. :(

There were a handful of people waiting here.

Where are you located?

I just did it. I have the newest version of Office free for a year and I can use it on the iPad or any other computer. I call that a great promotion!

Well yes - but we know you work for Microsoft, Google and Samsung - so there's no surprise there. You aren't the one with the poison pen for Microsoft.

(sarcasm folks)

I went to the Natick store. It is 2 doors down from the Apple Store.

I make mega bucks collecting 3 pay checks every week. Renzatic is soooo jealous! :D

Wow everyone on this thread are the biggest haters. Yes it's expensive if you are using it for 1 ipad. But that's not what office 365 is meant for. Office for 5 computers/ iPads.. If you take full advantage of it, it is well worth it.
Absolutely. MS Office has done me very well indeed throughout my career. I am very happy to plunk down my 365 subscription now that these 3 iPad Office apps are out and so well done. The OneDrive app is a great complement to all 4.

A few questions if y'all don't mind...

With 365 Home Premium I can split the $100 between myself and 4 others right?

We can install the latest version of the desktop suite on each of our own PC or Macs?

Each of us can also use the "full" features of the iPad versions in addition to the desktop versions by signing in with our own email addresses?

We each have our own 20gb SkyDrive accessible by only that individual via email address?

If all are yes, this may not be so bad of a deal for $20 each per year.

My company works with over 5000 people worldwide.

7 years ago, Windows and Office. We thought we would always be a Microsoft company, until a new young IT manager persuaded us to consider switching to Apple with an initial test group of workers.

6 years ago, OS X and Office, with a possible transition to iWork and Scrivener.

3 years ago, OS X, iWork and Scrivener.

Today, we don't accept or use any Office files. If someone applies for a job citing Office skills, we think 'amateur and out of date' and reject them.

Business is up. Profits are up because of efficiency, and people using smart software to do smart things. Dumping Microsoft was the best business move we ever made.

Companies that stick with Microsoft do so out of ignorance, complacency and mediocrity. They think they need Microsoft. They are wrong. Who wants to work for or trade with such incompetent companies?

People say that they can't do X without Office. They are right. They can't. Other people can, and those are the modern open-minded people we want to employ.

Our only regret? That we didn't make the switch earlier.

That made me lol. Your company sounds amateurish and clueless.

That's like saying you reject any applicants for a job of a photographer or photo editor because they have Photoshop on their resumes when you really want GIMP. Yea the latter may work, but if you think Photoshop is amateurish, you're going to be the laughing stock of people who actually know what they're doing.

You do realize Microsoft has to pay its bills like the rest of us.

Umm, how about just letting me BUY the damn software rather than yearly subscription BS.

I can't believe the people who are falling for this subscription crap. Really? You want to pay for it every year for LIFE? You're falling right into their trap.

Glad to hear your lemonade stand is doing so well.

Erm... I call BS. Nobody can be that delusional. I mean... it's great that you're embracing change and all... but there's no logical reason as to why you would consider someone with Office skills an amateur based on that reason alone. I would be happy to NOT work for your "company" if that were the case.

Yea, at Natick Mall Microsoft opened a store 2 doors down from Apple. I think it opened last August. Very friendly people there and at the Apple Store. Which store are you near, Boston or Burlington?

Boston, though my wife is manager at Burlington Best Buy, so I head there too semi-often.

Is that like my iTunes purchases that I can't share with anyone without allowing them access to my account or authorizing their device on my account even though I purchased the music, video etc and supposedly own it? That's a trap too, isn't it?

Did anybody actually bother reading the article? The following quote indicates that people ARE buying subscriptions, not just downloading.
Thank you. Why people have to be so negative every time Microsoft or Google releases a new product?

You will generally find the better the product, the more hatred here is directed towards it.

Microsoft are great at writing software, far better than Apple.

Just think, Apple are continually try to fix and patch an OS that only runs on a few models of hardware they themselves have made.

Now think about what Windows will run on.

I think it's amazing people pull together totally random bits of hardware from new to a decade or more old, screw it all together and windows runs on it.
